An asteroid with diameters between 22 and 49 metres will shoot pass Earth in a distance closer than Earth from the Moon on September 1, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
2011 ES4's close approach is 'close' on an astronomical scale but poses no danger of actually hitting Earth. Planetary defence experts expect it to safely pass by at least 45,000 miles (792,000 football fields) away on Tuesday, September 1," NASA Asteroid Watch tweeted on Saturday.
The last time asteroid 2011 ES4 fly by the Earth was visible from ground for four days. This time, it will be closer to our planet than before with an estimated distance of 1.2 lakh kilometres, closer than that of the Moon, which is 3.84 lakh kilometres away from the Earth.
The asteroid, listed as a potentially hazardous asteroid, was first discovered in the spring of 2011 and passes by Earth every nine years.

A populated region get hits by a 160’ diameter rock traveling about 18,000 mph and it will make the Beirut explosion seem like a party popper.
Who had ‘Near Miss Asteroid’ on their, ‘2020 Bingo Disaster’ Card? ;)
Let’s hope it doesn’t strike and interrupt any peaceful BLM protest areas. That would be sad.
Asteroids Smatter Lives.
“792,000 football fields” — oh yeah, that’s MUCH more comprehensible than “45,000 miles.” Now I can really grasp that distance.
How about “1/6 the distance to the moon”?
Or maybe “Sixteen one-way driving trips across the United States?”
Of course, that’s without kids in the back seat. It you have kids in the back seat, it’s the equivalent of 32 driving trips across the US.
I have it, right next to murder hornets
Another miss. Dang it.
It’s been QUITE the year, hasn’t it? ;)
“Are we there, yet? Are we there, yet? Are we there, yet?”

We used to give our young kids about 12 quarters each as we were pulling out of the driveway. They had to pay us a quarter each time they asked “Are we there yet?”
Our two girls always pocketed the full $3 at the end of the trip. Our son always arrived at our destination completely broke. LOL.
...and I feel fine.
Thats 47 CVS receipts.
LOLOL...really, you did make me laugh out loud.
I could print War and Peace on my collection of CVS receipts!
That ought to keep ole Sleepy Joe hunkered down in his basement for another six weeks.
Oh geez... drunk wasps too?
Glad you got a chuckle. We need all the laughs we can get these days.
Lakh is 100,000. One hundred thousand in India.
If this is actully true people should be worried. Its not whether the asteroid hits the earth that matters. If it comes between us and the moon than it will pass through the moons orbit twice. If it hits the moon, thats a bigger issue than if it hits the earth. The moon could splinter. Or change orbit. And parts could be dislodged that could hit the earth. Not good.
