I recently found myself in need of a stairlift for a family member. I am looking to purchase a system and install it myself. I began with a little research to educate myself about the different brands. Any recommendations good or bad would be highly appreciative. As well, any tips about unreputable marketers or manufacturers. This is a basic straight one story flight of stairs with landings at top and bottom.
Thank you
Family run company. Let me know if you work with them. Good Luck.
Helping a close relative.
I did just look on Craigslist. It may be worth making a few calls.
Thank you. I’ll take a look.
We are considering installing a stairlift, so let me know what you think after looking at these review sites:

Thanks. It looks like I’m about to be educated. Lol thanks for the links.
We have an Acorn Stairlift here at my house. Main floor to second floor. Have had it for a while with good performance. Removed it for a couple years and then had to re-install it after my wife was in an accident. Company seems pretty customer friendly and has responded well to questions I had when a switch wore out.
Like most of the units out there , this one runs off batteries and power outages aren’t a problem.
FWIW...I had a refurbed model installed for my 90-year old step mother. It was a Bruno and is battery operated so it will run even if the power goes out. If you are close to the Ann Arbor area there is a company that specializes in these applications. I believe the total cost was around $2500 installed with a 1-year warranty.
Not to bad-mouth the Ameriglide units, but I found them to be on the low-end of stair lifts. While my step-mother is light, the Bruno units are rated at 300lbs. It also included the two remotes at the top and bottom of the stairwell to “call” for the unit if necessary.
The company was A4 Access in Rochester Hills. We live near in the Irish Hills and I don’t believe they charged us for travel.
I appreciate the valuable resource links. I wasn’t sure where to begin. All I could think of was consumer reports. These are extremely informative and resourceful and in depth. Thanks again.
That is ingenious. The grandkids would take it out to the back forty four wheeling. Lol. Cool and unique house too.
I’m guessing someone received a multi million dollar injury settlement.
Your request intrigued me so I Googled it and in the Omaha area there is a medical supply company that sells and installs used lifts. They also rent them. Just another suggestion.
Thank you. Hopefully it will get many years use.
I have a pinnacle lift. Got it off Marketplace for $250. Was like new. Sixteen year old grandson installed it. Works great! The only thing we have had to do was replace batteries a year or so ago.
That is fantastic. I may have me daughter keep her eyes open on craigslist while I’m researching.
My brother just bought and installed a used one for my SIL.
His stairway has 2 different turns in it and he saved a small fortune by DIY. He ended up purchasing 2 different used models and mixed and matched to get the turns just right. The only challenge he has had after finding what he needed on Craigslist was the motorized chair thingy can occasionally throw an error. Keep in mind his chair is more complex than a straight one because the angle changes on turns and the chair needs to adjust to keep occupant in chair.
I wish for you good fortune on your quest! :-)
