How Johnson & Johnson's COVID Vaccine Is Making a Comeback After Encountering Several Problems

At one point, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) seemed to have a pretty good shot at becoming the leader in the COVID-19 vaccine market. Unlike rival vaccines, J&J's vaccine required only a single dose. The company even committed to selling its vaccine at cost during the pandemic, giving it a big price advantage compared to the vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna.

The latest purchase from J&J also appears to reflect increased confidence in the company’s vaccine.

Johnson & Johnson also announced encouraging data last week for its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine. The company reported that the vaccine generated strong neutralizing antibody levels against the delta variant and other prevalent coronavirus variants. It also said that the vaccine has provided a durable immune response through at least eight months.

The potential protection against the delta variant was especially good news. J&J stated that its vaccine produced neutralizing antibody levels against this variant that were even higher than those found for the beta variant first identified in South Africa. Chief scientific officer Paul Stoffels said: “This adds to the robust body of clinical data supporting our single-shot vaccine’s ability to protect against multiple variants of concern.”

It should be noted, though, that J&J’s data was from blood samples obtained from only eight participants in its phase 3 clinical study and has not yet been peer-reviewed. The results showing that its vaccine provided immune response through at least eight months came from a phase 1/2a clinical study with 20 participants. This data also hasn’t yet been peer-reviewed.

Even with these caveats, Johnson & Johnson’s latest data are certainly positive. The company’s COVID-19 vaccine could very well be proven to be effective against the delta variant and other variants of concern with long-lasting immunity.

The covid vaccine my whole family chose was J and J. Except for my 16 year old daughter—she’s taking a wait and see approach

I held out for the J&J vaccine. I got it because my sister, with whom I live, has multiple vulnerability factors, and she is terrified. No, she is not obese and does not have diabetes.

Now my nephew has tested positive and likely my BIL also has it. Neither of them was vaccinated.

Me, too. I figure that since they sell a lot of things that are not big pharma, they know that if they eff up their vaccine they will probably be out of business.

its probably safer for the unvaxxed anyway as the vaccinated shed for a few days so they could get screwed up in close proximity when that is going on

If they screwed up on the first version, as they have so frequently in the past on their products, WHY on God’s green earth would I want to or should I trust them now about this experimental medical treatment?

But the mRNA vaccines are better at preventing symptomatic disease. In my case, family members need to fly internationally to meet with family and friends. Having symptoms and fever would cause having to reschedule travel dates. Reentry into the US requires having a negative PCR or antibody test within 3 days of travel even if you are vaccinated. It’s much less hassle to have two doses of an mRNA vaccine than a single dose of the J&J vaccine and have to worry about having to reschedule travel.

Even after said unvaxxed family member was so sick with COVID that he was hospitalized for days.

Nope, not vaxxed and not allowed at a family get together by some Karen relative, even though he had better immunity than probably the whole lot of them put together with their vaxxes.

Shedding what? The mRNA vaccines are not attenuated whole vaccines. They are just fragments of RNA that code for the SARS-COV-2 spike protein. There are no virus particles to shed.

This is my anecdotal experience. I got fully vaxxed(Pfizer) in April. Had no choice of vaccines, Pfizer was the only one offered and the only side effect was soreness in the arm.

Last month I caught a moderate, as they used to say, cold. Runny nose, sneezing, moderate cough. Felt normal after about 5 days, although the cough did linger off and on for another week, no biggie, but I did drink a lot of orange juice and had chicken soup often.

I'm in the Moderna vaccine trial and got my injections in August and September of 2020. Back when I got in the test program no one had any idea how effective any of the vaccines would be. I read about the first look at the Pfizer 95% effectiveness numbers back in the middle of November. I figured that since the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were very similar, that the Moderna vaccine was likely to have similar numbers. Sure enough a few days later, Moderna reported 94.5% effectiveness against symptomatic disease and 100% effectiveness against serious disease.

When my wife became eligible to be vaccinated at the end of March, we had a choice of either Pfizer or Moderna. As it was easier to get a slot at the county mass vaccination site, we opted for her to get the Moderna vaccine. My mother was able to get vaccinated in January and February with the Pfizer through her retirement community. Since the facility has assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care units in the same building, they went ahead and offer the option for those in independent living to also get vaccinated. I am grateful that all the adults in my immediate family have gotten fully vaccinated with mRNA vaccines. My wife's family overseas has mostly been vaccinated with the Covishield vaccine which is an Indian manufactured version of the Astrazeneca vaccine.

If I were a young male, I would get the J&J vaccine, because most of the problems associated with it are in females of reproductive age. If I were a young female, I would get one of the mRNA vaccines, because the heart issues associated with Pfizer and to a lesser extent the Moderna vaccines, were in adolescent and young adult males.

J&J and all 'vaccine' manufacturers are protected from liability. No one will pay those disabled by the vaccines for lost wages, permanent inability to return to work.

There's a little fund available through the feds but in 10 years or so, they've only paid out on 29 claims. The federal government isn't going to pay anybody for anything given most of the public are getting these Covid 'shots' and the citizens would have to litigate against the US (your tax dollars working for you!).

J&J has a history of malevolence - they knew their baby powder had asbestos in it but continued to sell it.

Pfizer’s vaccine is failing big time in Israel, the majority of the ill are Pfizer vaxxed. They create more harm than they prevent.
