We have a huge salt problem. Millions will die without action, WHO warns.

Seven million people could die of diseases linked to excessive salt consumption before the decade's end unless governments immediately pass tighter restrictions on salt, a report by the World Health Organization warned this month. Its authors are calling on governments to implement stricter sodium targets for food, mark salt content more clearly on packaging and boost public awareness of the health dangers posed by eating a lot of salty food.

"Excessive sodium intake is the top risk factor for an unhealthy diet, and it is responsible for 1.8 million deaths each year," said Francesco Branca, director of the WHO's Department of Nutrition for Health and Development.

Eating too much salt is one of the causes of cardiovascular disease, which kills an estimated 17.9 million people each year, according to the WHO. It can also lead to strokes, which kill 5 million people each year globally - and other serious medical conditions.

Saltwater gargles and saline nose spray can shorten the length of colds. I personally believe that generous use of garlic salt has protected me from covid.

The government is finding another way to kill us by inhibiting salt intake.

I might consume 10.8 grams, never measured my salt by grams. They seem to think everybody is High in salt. My family runs low in sodium. My wife scolded me till I had blood work results that said I am low in sodium. I do avoid processed food and sugar a lot though. We all need to work with our situation. Sodium is not bad for everyone. The idiots want to micromanage everything as though we are the same. We are not all the same. Oh, I forgot, Screw WHO :)

Didn’t we read a post not long ago that said research had shown salt does not contribute to high blood pressure, which can contribute to heart disease?

I find it hard to believe after recent events that the World Health Organization ever truly concerns itself with “World Health”

This, as with all bureacracies is simply a grift, an angle to extract money out of the need for pepple to eat.

I agree. I love salt and eat all I want.

Of course I do not eat processed foods. PERIOD

Sugar is addictive...try to cut it out and see if you can do without! (look at ingredients and see how much sugar is in product)

We are dying of sugar

Two sides to every story ....

Dr. James DiNicolantonio
The Salt Fix: Why the Experts Got It All Wrong—and How Eating More Might Save Your Life

What if everything you know about salt is wrong? A leading cardiovascular research scientist explains how this vital crystal got a negative reputation, and shows how to lower blood pressure and experience weight loss using salt. The Salt Fix is essential reading for everyone on the keto diet!

We’ve all heard the recommendation: eat no more than a teaspoon of salt a day for a healthy heart. Health-conscious Americans have hewn to the conventional wisdom that your salt shaker can put you on the fast track to a heart attack, and have suffered through bland but “heart-healthy” dinners as a result.

What if the low-salt dogma is wrong?

Dr. James DiNicolantonio has reviewed more than five hundred publications to unravel the impact of salt on blood pressure and heart disease. He’s reached a startling conclusion: The vast majority of us don’t need to watch our salt intake. In fact, for most of us, more salt would be advantageous to our nutrition—especially for those of us on the keto diet, as keto depletes this important mineral from our bodies. The Salt Fix tells the remarkable story of how salt became unfairly demonized—a never-before-told drama of competing egos and interests—and took the fall for another white crystal: sugar.

According to The Salt Fix, too little salt can:
• Make you crave sugar and refined carbs
• Send the body into semistarvation mode
• Lead to weight gain, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and increased blood pressure and heart rate

But eating the salt you desire can improve everything, from your sleep, energy, and mental focus to your fitness, fertility, and sexual performance. It can even stave off common chronic illnesses, including heart disease.

The Salt Fix shows the best ways to add salt back into your diet, offering his transformative five-step program for recalibrating your salt thermostat to achieve your unique, ideal salt intake. Science has moved on from the low-salt dogma, and so should you—your life may depend on it.

If the WHO warns against too much salt, there must be a dramatic deficiency of salt in our diets.

The fact is that unless you have hypertension you don’t really have to watch your salt and there is NO link between higher salt intake and getting hypertension. NONE. Fact is the original US 2 gram a day limit was pulled out of someone’s ass without any scientific justification.

There is a problem that causes people to have problems with salt.

People who can consume salt to taste and don’t have problems don’t have excess.
