Animal House
The National Lampoon masterpiece continues to set the bar for cinematic depictions of collegiate debauchery. See John Belushi in one of his greatest roles as a fraternity brother at the riotous Delta house, as the brothers fight a college dean who wants to see their charter revoked and their house disbanded.

I believe that it is one of those rare things: a perfect movie.
The casting was excellent. The dialog was expertly crafted and delivered.
The plot was perfecto.
There was nothing to cause me to bend over laughing, but it was thoroughly enjoyable and a wonder to have beheld.
That definitely should be on any top 50 list of comedies, or movies in general.
It also didn't hurt that Shirley MacLaine was a stunner back then.
I wouldn’t doubt if that movie had something to do with the breaking up of Ma Bell.
I was watching a show (Larry King?) where he had on a few people after Walter Matheau’s death. Jack Lemmon told the story where Walter did a scene and falls from the rafters in a theater- but the cushion was in the wrong place and he landed hard. Walter thought he was going to die, moaning, etc.
Jack ran to him, straightened him out onto his back, put his jacket under his head. “And then, I know it’s a stupid question now - he’s moaning in pain - but I ask him ‘Walter - are you comfortable?’
He looks up at me and says “eh - I make a living.”
Yeah. I remember that and thought about it for this list.
It was billed as having the most gags per minute of any movie ever, or something like that.
No MARX BROTHERS, no W.C. FIELDS, no LAUREL & HARDY, no ABBOT & COSTELLO, no THREE STOOGES, no CARY GRANT ONES, and on and on and on!
No GREAT RACE, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, DUCK SOUP, COCONUTS, BRINGING UP BABY, HOLIDAY, MR. PEABODY AND THE MERMAID, A CHUMP AT OXFORD, PENELOPE, A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, A MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING, SLEEPERS, SONS OF THE DESERT, THE BANK DICK, ROOM SERVICE, and on and on, and ON!
Agreed
The latter counts as a musical comedy.
Rex Kramer danger seeker was awesome.
Those are solid.
It’s hard to beat “Airplane.” I’ve watched it many times and still ROFL.
Some I didn’t see mentioned:
My Cousin Vinny
A couple of Cameron Diaz pieces:
Knight and Day
Gambit
Princess Bride
4 for Texas
Duck Soup
I was actually the pledge-master of our fraternity when Animal House came out. Our whole fraternity (mostly nerds and outcasts, so we could really relate) went to see it together. It was one of my fondest memories of college - that and meeting my future wife. Of all the movies I’ve seen, comedy or not, it’s the one I’ve probably watched the most times. (Maybe Patton.)
Another comedy movie I’ve watched a lot is Office Space. I worked in a place just like that right out of grad school. I didn’t stay there long, and took a different path after that. (No, not a construction worker.)
And I can’t believe Spinal Tap isn’t on the list.
No old movies but plenty of ALL CAPS!
“Get away from the cans! They hate the cans!”
“I don’t care about losing all the money, it’s losing all the stuff.”
how about it.
This lady ( I haven’t figured out how old she is ) does a lot of “Best of...:

and she does go back a ways on some of her picks in some of these categories...
That didn’t make the list? It’s funnier than all the others combined.
LOL...imagine delivering an impromptu comedic line like that when you are in horrible pain! What a talent!
Thanks for the story.
