Is the Glass Half Full or Half Empty?
American Thinker ^ | 30 Apr, 2024 | Christopher Chantrill

When it’s all over, and the populists have won, then everyone will say that it was inevitable. If populism is defeated, then everyone would say that it never had a chance.

If you are Deroy Murdoch you see Speaker Mike Johnson as a “squish” for caving on the Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan foreign aid bill.

Johnson has mastered McConnell’s art of giving Democrats what they want while getting nothing in return.

Whatabout the good old days of the “conference committee,” Murdoch asks, when House and Senate resolved their differences and sent the compromise to the President for signature? It was Obama-time when

[Harry Reid and] Nancy Pelosi torpedoed this tradition of American democracy. Instead, they drafted major bills behind their offices’ closed doors.

Why did they do this? Because they had the power to do it.

If you are Kevin Roberts of the Heritage Foundation, on the other hand, you are encouraged that 112 Republicans voted against the bill.

The GOP establishment’s actions this past week portend the end of the GOP establishment, not its survival. Conservatives will win the soul of the GOP and with it the hearts of the American people.

So, is the glass half full or half empty? I think the answer is pretty obvious. We don’t know.

I believe that populist nationalism is a political and cultural movement trying to push back against the educated-class regime that has ruled us for the last century in organic upwellings, unexpected and unforeseen by regime narrators: Nixon’s silent majority, Reagan Democrats, Tea Party, Brexit, MAGA.

And I believe that all the movements from the Left -- from the 1960s students to 2008 Hope and Change to 2012 and Trayvon Martin and the 2014 Ferguson riots to the 2020 Floyd riots to the 2024 campus protests...

It seems the left must be using blackmail to fight pushback unless the GOP are squishes or closet marxists.

I suspect everyone except perhaps 15-20 of them would have voted for this bill of their votes really made a difference.

Good question. To which I’d add, was the glass manufactured using only green energy?

If not, I denounce both the glass maker and the glass itself. I might even throw in that classic phrase:

Ahhh... the eternal conundrum.
Is the glass half empty or half full?
I’m an engineer.
I see a glass that is twice as big as it needs to be.

What if it’s piss that’s in the glass? Renders the argument moot, doesn’t it?

I have to agree that things are totally undecided. I would like to see the leftist coalition unraveling and losing support from the Black and Hispanic groups. However, the all out war on Trump with numerous phony lawsuits is taking its toll and I would not be surprised if Trump at some point will be handcuffed and jailed while the leftist media swoons. While this leftist wet dream might happen it will make Trump a martyr and will only increase his poll numbers. Most people recognize that these lawsuits are simply an organized plan of election interference.

Joe Biden continues to exhibit advancing dementia and at some point will have to be replaced whether by VP Kamala or by another candidate at the convention is yet to be seen. Biden’s policies are killing the country both economically and culturally and his popularity is sinking.

I guess I’m preparing for either Trump being elected and the left goes on an orgy of rioting, impeachments and continued attacks on Trump or Biden is again fraudulently elected and the country continues on the road to a socialist one party totalitarian state.
