LeMay had firebombed over 30% of the area of Japanese cities to ash, towns were being shelled from just offshore, and fighters were strafing all targets of opportunity. They would have been ground down completely at some point. If the shock of the bombs was the final straw, so much the better;

Glenn Beck was pretty good when on Fox. Then he lost it on his own.
I was never a fan of Bill O’Reilly. But he never regained his popularity on his own.
Megyn Kelly…she also flaked off Fox.
Is Tucker the next Glenn Beck?

The united states was broke and wouldn’t have been able to continue the war and would have been forced into negotiating peace terms. The japs had atomic bombs and had tested them off the Korean coast making it a necessity for us to use the bombs to end the war. A decision that ultimately saved millions of lives.

I spent some time in a small sized Japanese town on the Sea of Japan coast in the 90's.
There was a small park with some low stone walls, and I asked about it.
The low stone walls were all that was left of the local castle after the American battleships had shelled it.
We literally were sailing up and down the coast blasting and bpmbing factories and military targets.
Hello, they didn't understand they had lost when we could do that at will
I also saw black UPS truck sized vans driving around town with men on top waving Imperial Japanese flags... this was the nationalist party, my host told me.
They remember what happened, and it was war.

My father was training with the 1st Marine Division for the landing, at the time, since he was out of the hospital after Okinawa. A discussion among the Marines was having to shoot a 10 year old, armed with a bamboo spear, known as an idiot stick. Recall, the Marines were averaged age 19.
A standing joke was that this was going to be a short fight. The 1st MarDiv wasn't on the list of available maneuver elements after L Day+10, having been functionally wiped out.
Since the country was bleeding million$ per day, and 2 million young men were gone on duty, you're saying "They should just wait." Months, years?
