Mmm, possible, but I really think it was more a matter of not finding the right girl. Finrod left the girl he loved behind in Valinor; I believe she was not of the Noldor and wouldn't leave Middle-Earth. Gil-Galad is anyone's guess. I won't venture to claim that he had any one particular motive since we just don't know.
