I agree with you... These elves act like the Mirkwood elves in the Hobbit. They are very much captors rather than companions on their way into the wood. They are a bit scary but wonderful, would shoot you if you tried to flee. One never would have thought to flee the Rivendell elves, or the wandering party we met in the Shire.

Those Mirkwood elves were too materialistic (wanting THEIR share of the treasure, indeed!) Legolas, on the other hand, was higher class (and better looking!)
