The Missus and I had the pleasure of visiting Beauvoir and the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library yesterday. Admission is $7.50 and worth ten times that amount.

Excellent work! Thanks for posting.
Over 138 years ago, a nation was called to prayer by its president, during a time of severe sorrow. The date was Friday, 27 March 1863; that nation was the Confederate States of America.
"To this end I, Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America, do issue this my proclamation, setting apart Friday, the 27th day of March, as a day of fasting, humiliation and prayer; and I do invite the people of the said States to repair on that day to their places of worship, and to join in prayer to Almighty God, that He will preciously restore to our beloved country, the blessing of peace and security. In faith whereof I have hereunto set my hand at the city of Richmond on the twenty-seventh day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three."

I visited his home in 1994. A very wonderful place and when you toured the gardens out back you could just feel the Old South's charm. I have many fond memories of going there. A must see for all true Sons of the South.

"Remembering, as I must, all which has been suffered, all which has been lost, disappointed hopes and crushed aspirations, yet I deliberately say, if I were do do it all over again, would again do just as I did in 1861."Bump for an honorable, decent man, who believed that what he and his country did was right and justified.

Thanks for that rich history lesson!

I drove over to Beauvoir in 1978 while I was at Naval Reserve training in N'awlins.
It was pretty run down at the time and I thought that was a terrible shame. I am really looking forward to a trip back now that she is restored to a condition suitable to the memory of this great warrior and patriot.
Thanks for the post.

My pleasure. You'll be pleased to see the addition of the Presidential Library that opened in 1996. It's fantastic. The State gave 4.5 million to help in it's construction.

Here are some pics I took.

Yeah a buddy of mine from down that way told me that it was real nice with the library and all. Thanks for the pics; I will be using that front view of the house for wallpaper for a while. Hey how do you post pics?

I got 20 meg of space at Compuserve for a personal website. I made a small, simple one that uses about 1 meg. I use the rest of the space to store pics. Each pic has it's own URL. Compuserve allows hot linking because you pay for the space every month whether you use it or not. My wife does the same from her AOL web page.

I have a website that I am starting to play around with and learn this stuff. I will give that method a shot (putting one pic per URL)
Thanks

Every pic you store will automatically have its own URL. Use your File Manager to keep up with what you have stored. Using it, you can upload new ones, delete old ones, or rename them. Once you get them uploaded, use this HTML command to post them:
I'm gonna use parentheses () instead of carats <> so that it doesn't try to execute the command here.
(img src=insert URL here) example: One of the pics I posted above is:

I appreciate that. I don't know if I will be using FR much in the future. There have been some poor decisions made about "splitting" FR into seperate "forums" and it will (at least for me) make what was once a fairly dependable medium much less desirable.
Oh well.
