Facebook users who watched a newspaper video featuring black men were asked if they wanted to "keep seeing videos about primates" by an artificial-intelligence recommendation system.
Facebook told BBC News it "was clearly an unacceptable error", disabled the system and launched an investigation.
"We apologise to anyone who may have seen these offensive recommendations."
It is the latest in a long-running series of errors that have raised concerns over racial bias in AI.
'Genuinely sorry'
In 2015, Google's Photos app labelled pictures of black people as "gorillas".
The company said it was "appalled and genuinely sorry", though its fix, Wired reported in 2018, was simply to censor photo searches and tags for the word "gorilla".

Yet there would be no apogee if they labeled white men something derogatory.

Though, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened with their advanced tech. Perhaps programming things with their liberal biases actually causes the problem they are supposedly solving.

It seems pretty foolish to be offended by social mistakes made by an AI routine. But I guess its just a sign about how hyper sensitive the Left has conditioned whites to be about offending blacks.

Aren’t computers allowed to joke just a little? AI has a humor subroutine.
An insurance commercial is airing daily that features a dog that looks like its owner. Some people look similar to animals in the animal kingdom. So what? They are still humans. Still endowed by the Creator with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Norm MacDonald had a funny bit a few years back that trolled Google’s A.I.
He typed in: “Leading scorer in WNBA”
Google replied: “Did you mean: Leading scorer in _NBA?_”
*shocked, out loud* “GOOGLE!!!”
AI is the perfect vehicle for modern “software developers”. You don’t need logical thinking, critical reasoning skills, or coding talent. You just “train”. And then when the results go badly you can blame a completely opaque nonentity of bit patterns for the problem. No one gets fired.
It’s really a microcosm of the culture.
