Well, OBVIOUSLY,you missed the news about how the Michigan lawmakers had the wisdom to pass a bill banning the evaporation of water and then, having gained wisdom over the years, and drafted a new bill legalizing rain.
What would do without such leaders?

He was worried with too much weight on the island though, no? Sinking vs. tipping over seems like a small detail.

I moved near a creek 30 years ago. Water was at least 6 feet deep. Today it is ankle deep. Looks like the creek is drying up. Not so.Why? In the olden days, people cleaned the creek yearly which is now illegal thanks to EPA. I have lost 20 feet of property into the creek due to erosion. Mountains are sliding into the creek bed filling it with dirt.

So the question is, is there less water? no. It's spread wider.

at 1mm a year, in about 10,000 years they may start to notice.

Although, we should factor the mass exodus of NYers, empty skyscrapers, etc....so they’ve got a bit more than that.

Now imagine how far down glaciers and ice sheets would push down on the ground. I don’t know the exact amounts.
But my guess id that “sea level” today is many feet higher than it was in prior periods.
An interesting topic to explore IMO.

No, it’s still different. It’s hard to find much about the Geomorphology of Manhattan in a cursory search, but it’s not all bedrock; and it could be sinking for a host of reasons, like lots of islands do. (I live in a state where a lot of land has been lost to the Chesapeake Bay for a century or more.)

But Guam has apparently been rising for a million years.

So Hank is still SOL.

So really the sea levels haven’t really been rising, moreso massively developed costal cities are sinking under their own weight.

Too be fair, Manhattan has far more weighing it down than Guam has.

It sounds like you’re telling me that Guam, like a beach ball being held under water, actually needs more weight on it to keep it from popping up out of the ocean.

In the 70s we were told we’d all be starving and dead from the imminent coming ice age.

The Great Lakes levels are largely an artificial construct dictated by the Army Corps of Engineers.

No, I’m just saying that it’s probably more solid and stable just by nature.

Thanks for the conversation.

Land is subsiding in every coastal metropolis in the world.

The climate scamsters take advantage of gullible scientific illiterates and scream: “The oceans are rising”!

I remember those days. My opinion is, the freaky bastards saw that global cooling didn’t get any traction, so they switched to global warming.

The descent makes the metropolis more vulnerable to rising sea levels and coastal flooding caused by climate change

Sure - if climate change was real.

For the climate cultist, sinking island means sea level rise.
