And this is why he would lose the election. He just cannot help but substitute his personal agenda for the good of the nation.

I agree this is the kind of thing that scares me about him. It’s not his place to police adults and decide what kind of “speech” should be free.

If so then this demonstrates the nation is beyond saving. Libertine being substituted for liberty is a real clue. Seems the nation in its laudable form lasted about 200 years.

Did you actually read the statement put out by RS and referenced in the article?

The only thing I saw was that he supported enforcing laws that were ALREADY on the books. Kind of like DOMA and our illegal immigration laws that the Obama Administration ignores. What’s wrong with that? If it passed Congress (by Republicans) and was signed (Bush), it must have been popular enough to pass.

It would make me vote for him.

I have grandchildren that access the web. I’ve seen them accidentally bring up xxx pr0n. Think about what that says for the entire nation.

Imagine a generation of adult Americans exposed to this stuff when they were under 8?

Thing is, though we live in a free society, it is not anarchy. It even has some socialistic aspects because pure anarchy is not doable. We at least cover Playboys in grocery stores.

I’d be happy to see us come up with a system where you have to PROVE you are over 18 before you can get at that sort of material. Sure, it would be a hassle, but the cause is worth it. The alternative is not acceptable. Frankly, it may already be too late.

And if this kills Santorum, it is not his responsibility. Rather, it is the responsibility of the electorate. In a democracy you get not only the government you want, but the government you deserve. It will be the electorate that killed the US.

Yes, of course.

Imagine all the good freely available internet porn has done for the nation.

Exactly. We trade one nanny state for another. Two sides of one rotten coin.

Correct. And this will become the focus, not the economic travesties of the current administration. I like Rick but he comes off as a zealot.

Is it his personal agenda or as some Freepers claim, his support of big government?

Because getting the government involved in censoring and filtering what we do on the internet would require more government bureaucracy, which leads to, you guessed it, more Big Government!

It does make you wonder though, because anybody who is not functionally brain dead knows that if the government got in the habit of censoring what we do on the internet, they would not stop with porn. Rick Santorum is smart enough to know he'd be opening the door for future liberal administrations to go even further, so you have to wonder.

Wait... what did the very people who were involved with writing and ratifying the Constitution say about this?

“[A]lthough every immoral act, such as lying, etc., is not indictable, yet where the offence charged is destructive of morality in general; where it does or may affect every member of the community, it is punishable at common law. The destruction of morality renders the power of the government invalid, for government is no more than public order; it weakens the bands by which society is kept together. The corruption of the public mind, in general, and debauching the manners of youth, in particular, by lewd and obscene pictures exhibited to view, must necessarily be attended with the most injurious consequences, and in such instances, courts of justice are, or ought to be, the schools of morals.”

“The defendants are charged with exhibiting and showing to sundry persons, for money, a lewd, scandalous and obscene painting. A picture tends to excite lust, as strongly as a writing; and the showing of a picture is as much a publication, as the selling of a book. Curl was convicted of selling a book. It is true, the indictment charged the act to have been in a public shop, but that can make no difference; the mischief was no greater than if he had taken the purchaser in a private room, and sold him the book there. The law is not to be evaded by an artifice of that kind; if the privacy of the room was a protection, all the youth of the city might be corrupted, by taking them, one by one, into a chamber, and there inflaming their passions by the exhibition of lascivious pictures. In the eye of the law, this would be a publication, and a most pernicious one.”

he hasn’t said he would do this , this is left wing crap and being taken in by idiots on our side and I’m not even a Santorum fan.

Seems today you can post anything on the internet and million s will jump to the wrong conclusions and actually think what they have just read is the truth.

How sad and pathetic

Yep - it's great he's a Christian, but that seems to be his whole platform. At least when he's not stealing Newt's ideas and lines in an attempt to sound like a conservative Presidential candidate. If he really understood and believed in the Bible, he wouldn't be trying to effect "Christian" changes under the aegis of the power of the office. Jesus told us "resist not evil" and I believe it's because humans mortals can't win that battle -it's His job and our job as Christians is to carry the Word. Rick's attempt to make his religion the driving force of his campaign is a sure sign that he's doomed to failure if he becomes our nominee.
