In order to have a rational discussion about abortion, it is best to begin with areas of agreement. The simple truths presented here are not intended to solve all disagreements about abortion, but to provide the foundation for a rational discussion.

This is assuming you are talking to a rational person, which is not a great assumption.

Excellent rational discussion of the legal, practical (and even moral) issues involved in abortion.

This kind of cool, clearheaded examination starts to build a framework for understanding and finding solutions for the complexities of abortion.

The earliest a baby has been born and survived is 21 weeks and 5 days. Two premature babies hold the record for this.

Even worse it assumes anyone wants to. No one in DC wants to “solve the problem of abortion” anymore than anyone in DC wants to “solve the problem of immigration”. The Federal Government is destroying itself.

The hardcore believers in abortion are not rational, but MANY who are not hardcore but lean toward supporting abortion will listen to rational arguments where they would not listen to emotional appeals (however valid) by those who oppose abortion.

Genuine debate requires rules. Strong emotions in debate usually encourage the violation of such rules.

Women keeping their knees together and men stopping their whining about wearing condoms would have stopped this argument before it began. With today’s contraceptives, there is no reason to get pregnant unless you’re flat out too bleepin’ lazy to use them.

Everything here has been long known and said a thousand times. It includes propositions that the left denies. There is no basis for agreement or even discussion when one side insists on their own set of “facts.”

You have to understand that the opposition has no intention whatsoever of “finding solutions.” They believe they already have the only solution they care about, which is abortion on demand.

What you say is true.

That said, it is worth remembering that there are always folks who are near to or on the edge of an argument--even one as polarizing as abortion.

These are the ones who find themselves changing their minds or at least rethinking their positions after seeing or even hearing about the movie "Unplanned."

Those are the people who can--might--be reached with a new or even an old rational argument.

They great majority of Lefties are lost and lost forever. But if one mind can be changed. If just one baby can be saved...

Yes, very few, there are some, but very few are willing to engage in a rational discussion. Few have the courage to do so - instead they resort to name calling.

That would be a Venn diagram overlap. I have found that
the area I thought showed overlap culturally was everyone's
love of the Constitution.  Wrong.  And without that, a Venn
diagram of left and right looks like this.
Venn
Diagrams | Set Diagrams | Universal Set | Subsets ...

Nothing short of watering the Tree of Liberty can fix this.
