Unfortunately that has gone on since the beginning of Judeo-Christian society. Everybody knows overbearing tyrannical and often violent parents whose default is ‘shut up you don’t know anything’ to their children. Johnny Carson was a classic product of that sort of family, he grew up a monster of suppressed rage. After leaving Tonight a man in a parking garage just spoke to him in a friendly way and Carson physically attacked him. Screwed up parents perpetuate their evil from generation to generation.
Disrespect for authority (in this case parents) shows a path to trouble ahead. Of course, weak parents who use “just do as your told” aren’t helping matters, but kids who are not given boundaries wind up off the rails. Taxation and promotion of women in the workforce to pay for family needs was the beginning of the destruction of traditional families, and homemakers were villified.
