There’s nothing in the Constitution that forbids secession. The real impediment is that the US federal government will declare war on you if you try it.
“The real impediment is that the US federal government will declare war on you if you try it.”
Acting at the will, or at least the presumed will, of the other states.
The southern states left the Union in the manner they entered . . . by special conventions.
But, since 1865, state membership is akin to the Hotel California.
And who will they use to wage that war?
Most of the states that want to secede have the military bases in them.
The ones that are t in Red States are in Red areas of the Blue state they are located in.
Ft Drum….conservative area.
The military bases in california are in areas that are Red.
Washington, outside of the insanity of Seattle, Ft Lewis, is pretty Red too.
It definitely would be interesting. Co so Sri g how many gets there are as opposed to the kids joining now that can barely pass a PT test and can’t get yelled at.
And I’m thinking that NOT one member to the Special Operations Command would take part in any fighting.
And given that about 80% of the military is combat support, I don’t think they’d fare too well, IMHO.
Which, as we all know, is why the Second Amendment exists and is not to be infringed, period. It’s not for hunting, and it’s not even for everyday self-defense (though that is a side benefit). It is to provide the People the means to repel a tyrannical government, and overtake and replace it if necessary. The only way to maintain that capability is by providing the People with the right to keep and bear the same arms that the military possesses, which was the original intent (especially since the “militia” WAS the military most of the time).
Of course, the usual response to that is something along the lines of, “So you think you should be able to have a nuke?”, the answer to which is “Sure, if I can gather a cash pile as large as a major country as well as the resources that such a nation would possess, which means that’s a silly question because it would never happen anyway.”
Not smart to argue with a genius like MTG.
This. After Lincoln set the standard, everyone will follow it now.
But yes, as a matter of fact, states *DO* have the right to leave.
You forget that the US military will drop dead from heart attacks as soon as they get a little bit excited. Those mRNA shots are doing their jobs.
Not only that, but the Articles of Confederation, which was replaced by the U.S. Constitution, contained the following:
”And that the articles thereof shall be inviolably observed by the states we respectively represent, and that the union shall be perpetual. “
There is no mention of “perpetual” in the U.S. Constitution.
