I mentioned this to another Gator Supporter in this thread, but as a Buckeye fan you can appreciate this, if the NFL starts this Guardian Hat nonsense, the colleges won’t be far behind.

Think of a late November day in Columbus, the Buckeyes and Wolverines run out on the field with those things on their heads, it will take way from the uniforms and game IMO.

Part of the Ohio State helmet is the Buckeye stickers on the side of the helmet, same of the Michigan Wolverine emblem on their helmets, covering all that up with a Guardian Cap is no good IMO.

I use to watch the NFL games every week. The Kaepernick race baiting turned me off and I stopped watching. Every time I read a story about the NFL it is always something that makes the game less enjoyable. This helmet hat doesn't bother me but the new tackling rule is ridiculous. Sometimes when you are making a tackle your body isn't completely under your control. Now you will get penalized if you don't tackle someone the right way.

If the League wanted to reduce injuries, they would minimize the armor of the players.

No helmets, no 'spearing.' No helmets, no 100% sprint into another player's rib cage. No shoulder pads, no dangerous,
downfield blocks that tear ligaments and cartilage.

In short, keep the basic rules of football intact, but make the apparel the same as rugby.

Harbaugh is a great coach and I would prefer him to Ryan Day anytime.

After Meyer left I dont see any personality, or lradership on the Team. Harbaugh has that. I believe the Buckeye is a poisonous Nut. ;)

I don't think the Padded Helmet will be around long. As you say it takes away from the overall look. Some clever bugger will come up with something better that maintains the look. I hope.

**I assert that they’d be better going back to leather helmets because it would force them to tackle properly and not go for the big hit.**

Silly you, it’s about selling tickets, attracting advertisers, and tv network rights. Making the players look like glittering gladiators is essential.

Also, I recall a story years ago on women football fans, and what they like about the game. In the list was mentioned tight pants.

That simply reinforced what I had heard girls say even back when I was in high school.

I enjoyed the game (its just a game. Just. A. Game.), but am glad I got over my addiction to it 41 years ago.

The players weight , speed, quickness, and muscle power have exceeded the human bodies ability to withstand concussive blows. Biggest casualties, knees, shoulders, necks, ankles, arms, brains, skulls.
The guardians caps will help the head, but will probably not help the other body parts.
Players will soon look like the “Michelin Tire Man” of old.

You put those caps on players and using the head as battering ram will only increase, yes concussions will be down but other injuries will only increase, football despite the rule changes is played by highly aggressive men attempting to layout the opposition that part will never change

We laugh now but nothing is outside the realm of possibility given the political correctness of the NFL Management

“Leather helmets protected heads more than people think.”

We actually don’t know if they did or not really assist. Injuries for cheap athletes were not a major concern and not recorded. When plastic helmets arrived, 1939 when Rydell put them on the market, the game had been in existance for around 100 years at a more disorganized system, so before that it was a semi organized sumo match played by not really trained people hitting heads. And the galdiators were there long before that. (And they were plugged in on the same disorganized role)

Today’s conditioning and muscle building is based upon a role of violence put into science that the old guys never saw. So putting the leather back into practice will not sell with the butt in the seats so that ain’t going to happen. And it’s against the law to give them weapons to kill each other with. So I ask you, would people pay to see a pillowfight? Therefore, if you can’t afford to stop the violence, you anesthesize the public into thinking a 10% improvement of the danger justifies the continuance of calling sport a street fight.

I think there should have been a weight limit on football players. I mean, boxers can only be within a certain weight range to fight each other.
