I save my favorite threads from Free Republic in a folder for later viewing offline or to send in an email to friends. This is how I do it in Internet Explorer and XP. Forgive my grammar and spelling.
First I make a new folder on my desktop to save the web page the discussion is on.
To make a new folder on your desktop, right click on your desktop. A gray box will appear.
Move your arrow to New.
A second gray box will appear with Folder at the top.
Move your arrow over to Folder and left click.
You should now have a New Folder on your desktop. At this point you can rename your folder to anything you like. I renamed mine to Freepers.

If you want to save a discussion on Free Republic this is how I do it.
Go to the discussion web page you want to save on Free Republic.
Left click on Edit in the left hand corner of the web page in IE.
Move your arrow down to Select All. Left click. All the words and pics should be now highlighted.
Now left click File in the left hand corner of the web page.
Move your arrow down to Save As. Left click.
A box will appear with a list of destinations for you to choose.
Move your arrow up to the pull down menu tab. Left click.
Choose Desktop. Left click.
Move your arrow down to the folder you created on your desktop. If you didnt rename it should appear as New Folder. Double left click on the Folder ICON.
A box will appear with name of the file at the bottom which should be the title of the thread you are saving, Below that, Save Type As that should state next to it, Web page, complete (*.htm, *html). Below that, Encoding which I have set to save as Western European (ISO).
Now, left click on Save.
Go back to your desk top and open the Folder you created.
You should have an E icon. Click on that and IE should open with the web page you saved.
You can do this with all pages of the thread. You can save other web pages the same way, but you may have to choose a different Encoding like, Western European (Windows).
Thanks Roberto!
Heh...heh...Dave...Don....Bill...
You can view the webpage without being connected to the internet.
You can also use an "atomic powered" bookmark manager such as PowerMarks
Powermarks Bookmark Manager and Personal Search Engine which allows you to assign an unlimited number of keywords to any bookmarked page. So, if you save a bookmark with something like Powermarks, you can add any number of keywords to help you find it as well as other similar pages in the future.
Never tried MHT...Thanks!
You're quite welcome :-) Be advised that you don't need to select text beforehand...the entire page and all text will be saved in a simple single file.
Learn something everyday!
BTW...I was watching Day After Tommorrow....The special effects are great. SUV's Rule!
Isn't there a windows app that will act like a virtual printer and do the same thing?
It would be a lot easier to drag and drop the little blue "e" in the address bar that leads the URL, into your new desktop folder. Just resize the IE window down a bit so your desktop and the new folder shows up behid it.
