Is Americares a good charity to donate to for Asian Quake victims?

I believe in spreading my charitable donations around, and since I've already contributed this year to the Red Cross (Katrina), World Vision (tsunami), CARE, et cetera, I was considering giving to Americares for the Asian quake victims. But I won't support leftie groups like UNICEF, which promotes/subsidizes abortion in the third world, or Oxfam, which touts "social justice" (i.e., socialism).

I checked out Americares website, and while I wasn't thrilled by the Margaret Mead quote in their annual report, I couldn't find anything objectionable in their philosophy. Does anyone know if they're okay, or can you suggest a better recipient?

I would suggest the Salvation Army. They have a considerable presence in the area. They are also the least bureaucratic of any of the large charities. The Red Cross, while it does good work, is top heavy with administrators.

I gave to them when the Tsunami hit. They seemed like good outfit and they have some special license (something like that) that permits them to transport medicines. I normally give to the Salvation Army, but I was not sure how big a precense they have in Muslim nations.

I will also say that Americares sent me ONE follow up letter and has never asked me to donate again. So I probably will give to them in the future!
