Ex Diehard Democrat. The fire burned out today! Welcome a newborn republican!

Posted on 10/20/2005 9:52:27 PM PDT by lionel _huts1

Well fellow republicans, the title says it all. After a huge scuffle with a now ex friend (democrat), I am now a full blooded republican. I won't go into details why I decided to change, but I now see the light. Democrats are liars, deceiving, and very discriminative.

I never thought I would consider myself as a republican, but I know believe. It will take some time for me to adjust and to rethink a lot of my positions on social issues, but I think we all know how they’ll change.

But for the meantime, I have a lot of emptiness and pain right now. So if everyone could give me a warm welcome and a huge hug, it would help me a lot. I am hurting inside and just need some reassurance that I’ve done the right thing..

Thanks.

Welcome aboard, but we don't do hugs here, we tell people like you to suck it up and never look back, you have every right to feel screwed over, but we offer encouragement not sympathy :-)

Warm Welcome to you!
Mike

Welcome aboard!
Just remember at FR, we are a bit demanding of politicians with and (R) behind their name.

My metamorphosis happened in 1980, and I lost some friends, too; BUT I gained a LOT of GREAT new friends; and I'm a LOT happier.

Democrats are liars, deceiving, and very discriminative.

Where do you see this especially, in what areas or examples?

Even positive change can be difficult. Hang in there, and welcome aboard. (Nice user name, BTW. Lots of Simpsons fans hereabouts.)

Welcome.
You have done the right thing.
Conservatives everywhere applaud your decision.
You will never regret what you have done and will soon regret only that you did not do it sooner.
We really do have a "big tent" ... there is room for many opinions and many discussions.
Newbie to Newbie, I urge you to jump right in and post away.
Breathe a sigh of relief ... and get on with being a Conservative!

I'm sorry, but this sounds like troll language to me.

Where are you lionel?

"I won't go into details why I decided to change..."

I think you'd better; hit-and-run trolls don't cut any ice here.

Sounds like you had a run in with PEST syndrome [post election stress trauma] and lost a friend [who is Dem] over your politics.

Bit of advice - FR is not the most tolerant of new joins, expect much suspicion that you are a mole/troll. Shrug off any personal attacks.

But more importantly, drop the Democrat/Republican labels and do some research on conservative principals vs liberal ones. Changing your political philosophy is a bad move if you do it for the wrong reasons - ask yourself if you shifting to the right out of spite, or are you seriously questioning your old dogma?

Also, we tend to disagree on alot here - there is no "right" way to think. You don't have to adopt a laundry list of conservative causes to be a Conservative.

Cheers from a former Dem
Fen

For me, the transformation was about 88, when I started to realize the rhetorical BS was just that, rhetorical BS. The Party of JFK doesn't exist anymore, if it ever really did.....

As for the hug? The RIGHT way is to pick YOURSELF up, and keep on trucking..........
