Focus denies Dobson 'pushed out' of radio

Focus on the Family denied allegations by a high-profile ally that its founder, Dr. James Dobson, was "pushed" out of his 33-year-old radio program as part of the ministry's alleged effort to become more acceptable to mainstream society....

Before Dobson hosted his final Focus on the Family radio show Feb. 25, Daly said that week marked "the completion of a transition period that probably started more than 10 years ago."

When he resigned as chairman of the board one year ago, Dobson said in a statement that one of the "common errors of founder-presidents to hold to the reins of leadership too long, thereby preventing the next generation from being prepared for executive authority."

"I have wanted not to make that mistake with Focus on the Family, which is why I stepped back, first from the presidential duties six years ago, and now, from board chairmanship," he said at the time. "Though letting go is difficult after three decades of intensive labor, it is the wise thing to do."

Yesterday WorldNetDaily published a column attacking Focus on the Family, and trying to pit the organization against its founder, Dr. Dobson:

Dr. Dobson turns 74 next month.

Should he not be thinking of slowing down? Or retiring?

Dr. Dobson has remained a true American hero. He has escaped the scandals that some in the religous right have fallen prey to.

I think it’s very gracious for Focus on the Family founder Dr. Dobson to turn over the ministry he began to new leadership. It’s taken years to do it right, and it’s naturally very difficult to cut the final strings.

That said, I do believe Dr. Dobson has many more years of ministry left in him. It’s especially cool that he’s partnering with his son to produce a new radio program. And it’s very cool that he has remained above reproach during his ministry, being very cautious not to dishonor the Lord.

May the Lord bless both Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family.

When I was having “Churchianity” Problems, a phone call to Focus on the Family was my only link with with authentic “Christianity”, about twenty years ago.

I will always appreciate that.

"...part of the ministry's alleged effort to become more acceptable to mainstream society..."

They still focus on the basics of scripture - certainly that's NOT acceptable to today's mainstream society.
Did you know:
That "Pistol" Pete Maravich died in Pat Dobson's arms during a pick-up basketball game (heart attack)?

All I need to know is that Focus President Jim Daly attended a White House function last summer and PRAISED the Communist’s commitment to fatherhood!! Barf me. If this clown doesn’t realize that Obama is an ENEMY of all American families, he has no business leading any Christian organization, let alone Focus. He makes me barf. And the Tebow commercial was tepid and awful. The radicals have nothing to fear from this newly “progressive” group! Bob

Sadly, those good old days are gone. I always loved Focus, but will never contribute another nickel. Bob

If we affirm what is right, we have more standing to denounce what is wrong.

Do you know anything about Jim Daly, his upbringing, his heart? I don’t mean that as a rhetorical question.

I do know what you mean. And i understand.

“Reaching Across The Aisle” is bad enough in Politics, but in matters of Faith and Doctrine, can really be a problem.

And when it’s BOTH...Ay Yi Yi!

Dr. James Dobson would never appear at a gathering at an Obama White House. I am stunned by anyone of our faith who does not understand how truly evil and opposed to human freedom that Obama is. I am sickened by Jim Daly’s appearance there, no matter how pure his *heart* may be. Focus needs someone with a clear, rational *brain*. Blessings, Bob

Again, do you know anything about Jim Daly, his upbringing, his heart? Perhaps Focus on the Family is being “as clever as a serpent.”

How, specifically, do you think Focus on the Family has compromised?

1) "If we affirm what is right, we have more standing to denounce what is wrong."
2) "Do you know anything about Jim Daly...."

1st point: spot on.
2nd point: I know that he was abused and abandoned by his father and step-father, his story is really heart-wrenching, which is why he would try to point out the one good thing the "O" stood for (not thast the "O" would do anything to help, but he at least acknowledged the problem).

And Billy Graham met with a lot of currs in the White House - whether or not his presence did any good, only God may know - but he at least was obedient.
Some of us may have ministered to rapists and murderers - is that a reflection on our morality and ethics, or is it a sign of our obedience to The Shepherd?

Pete Maravich had a heart defect from birth. He was easily one of the best basketball players in college & pros - an unbelievable talent. His scoring average is even more amazing considering the 3-point shot was not in effect.

“Pushed out”? Do people realize how long this guy has been on the air? decades! He’s an old man now, time to retire while overseeing his work ongoing for years to come. This was planned longer ago than many talk-show hosts’ careers.

I will *assume* that Mr. Daly has a kind heart, for the sake of argument. I simply do not believe that kinder and gentler hearts are a match for an evil administration who wants to destroy our Constitution and values. Nor do I believe that creeping relativism, a la Joel Osteen’s, ultimately serves to bring people into God’s Kingdom. Look at Mike Huckabee’s disastrous policy decisions based upon his belief that HE could judge whether individuals have been reformed! Blessings, Bob

I concur that creeping relativism, a la Joel Osteen, does not serve the bring people into God’s Kingdom. I’m confident Daly concurs as well.

Focus is not disengaging from involvement in the political realm. They’re not disengaging from being a godly influence on culture. They’re simply putting more energy into ministering to *individuals*.

Theo, I think that Focus has ALWAYS concentrated on personal problems. The reality today is that we have a government large enough and evil enough to wrest our rights away from us. Then, most of us will be concerned with getting by from day to day, and programs such as Focus, and the stations which host it, will be driven off the air. We can’t pretend that there is not really a gorilla in our living rooms, and that supporting or opposing Marxists such as Obama is the same as deciding between coffee and tea. The entire administration considers us Christians to be their enemies! Blessings, Bob
