Eminent Domain Abuse Watch
The latest Eminent Domain trial wraps up later today. A local government in southern California tried to use blight designations to seize swathes of property and hand them over to developers who plan to build luxury condos. One threatened property is a community boxing gym featured in an Institute for Justice video:

Eminent Domain Definition -
Government power to take private property for public use without the owner’s consent. Constitutional provisions in most countries, including the U.S. (in the 5th Amendment to the Constitution), require the payment of just compensation to the owner. As a power peculiar to sovereign authority and coupled with a duty to pay compensation, the concept was developed by such 17th-century natural-law jurists as Hugo Grotius and Samuel Pufendorf. This was a case of government representatives (Pelosi/Murthy et al) taking public property and giving it to a well-known communist foreigner for private use. One wonders how that works...
