CLARKSVILLE, Ind. -- An all-out search is under way for a man accused of trying to kidnap a girl.

The incident happened in a quiet neighborhood in Clarksville on Saturday.

According to police, a man in his mid- to late-30s grabbed a 10-year-old girl who was riding her bike and tried to abduct her.

This has been considered a very disturbing case, and it's shaken up a lot of parents in Clarksville because it is the type of case parents fear the most.

Now, the search is on to catch that man before he has a chance to strike again.

According to the police report, the girl was riding her bike when the man jumped out from between two houses, jerked her off her bike and began carrying her away.

The 10-year-old bit him on his left arm hard enough to cause him to drop her, the police report said.

The girl ran home, and the attacker ran away and is still at large, police said.

"Since he didn't get this little girl, is he going to be looking for another one?" said concerned neighbor and parent Candice Carroll.

Police said they are worried too, conducting an all-out search for the man, canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing known sex offenders.

But none of the 46 registered sex offenders in Clarksville are an exact match.

"We are going to really be watching our kids right now," said Carroll.

Absolutely horrifying! I am so happy that the ten year old girl didn’t “freeze” with fear. (would authorities be looking for her little body right now?!). I hope they catch this guy... I have the feeling that children are going to be kept inside and all schools/parents will be on absolute alert.

For some reason the police sketch is not with the article but they show it a could of times in the news report.

They’d better try to find this guy while he still has a bite-mark on his left arm. Otherwise, identifying him may be difficult.

I don’t know anything about Clarksville, but 46 registered sex offenders in the area seems pretty high. Is it a large town?

I would add that the registering, or the failure to register, of sex offenders can sometimes be pretty arbitrary. I hope they are going through the records and looking for similar patterns, in particular an interest in little girls.

Clarksville is not a large town. I would guess about 40-50 thousand. I've been there many times and have not heard a lot about crime there. 46 sex offenders does seem like a lot.

According to WIKI the population was 21,724 at the time of the 2010 census. It is beside a twin city, Jeffersonville, which gives them both a greater appearance of size.

I think there might be a problem with sex offender registries.

A teenage boy caught boinking his teenage girlfriend of the wrong age can be a sex offender. So can people who have done far, far worse.

I am afraid that “sex offender” is a brush that paints too broadly.

Yeah, but it’s right across the river from Louisville.

Clarksville and Jeffersonville are directly across the Ohio River from Louisville.

I think that explains it. I hope they find this guy before the bite wound heals!
