‘Blasphemous’ artwork removed from Paris exhibition (Islamic Hecklers Veto)
UK Telegraph ^ | January 28, 2015 | David Chazan

An artwork depicting high-heeled shoes on Islamic prayer mats has been removed from an exhibition after a Muslim group warned of possible violence in the wake of the Paris attacks. The French-Algerian artist, Zoulikha Bouabdellah, withdrew the work from an exhibition in a northern Paris suburb with a large Muslim population after an Islamic group told local authorities it could provoke “uncontrollable, irresponsible incidents”. It is considered disrespectful to step on Muslim prayer maps with shoes.

Lenny Bruce used to do a controversial routine with the premise that if everyone deliberately used the N-word constantly the N-word would soon lose its negative power and become almost meaningless.

This certainly is offensive, isn't it? We'd better be nice to those Muslims because they're certainly nice to us.

I’m sick of the annual “Islamic art” exhibitions in the art museums with nothing challenging the theocratic system, the misogyny, the genocide, the child abuse, the discrimination, etc.

Nope, it’s all about the wonder of Islam, diversity, and the evil imperialist West.

There WAS more to the Middle East than Islam, once upon a time. Why don’t academics and art mavens bother to listen to THOSE voices?

Technically, the shoes are not on the mats. They are on pieces of paper on the mats. The soles of the shoes never dirty the rugs.

I look at that and see a lot of “ready made” art that has been brought into an assemblage.

The artist did not design the shoes, weave the rugs, or design/construct the building.

I see repeated patterns and that’s about it.

I doubt Dali would’ve approved either.

Are the shoes set up for the 72 Virgin Brides?
Kind of a reverse Cinderella, in that you don’t want these shoes to be a perfect fit.

Shouldn’t it be Brussel syndrome as the capital of Belgium is also the seat of the EU?

Orlan said the removal of the artwork made a "mockery" of the principle of freedom of expression only weeks after the Charlie Hebdo attack and a huge solidarity march in Paris in which David Cameron and some 50 other world leaders took part.

You should be able to use your freedom of expresssion in any way you want.
Others who don't like it, should be able to use their freedom of expression also.
Unfortunately it might mean hurting, or killing you. - Tom

Better yet, each time a threat of this kind is issued, every muzzie involved should be publicly bayonetted.
