FULL TITLE: Pictured: Registered sex offender and former college staff member who was the third victim of the deadly Amtrak crash
The third person killed in the deadly Amtrak crash has been identified as a convicted sex offender found in possession of child porn while working in IT at a college.
Benjamin Gran, 40, of Auburn, Washington, died of multiple traumatic injuries on Monday when the Amtrak Cascades train 501 plummeted off the rails at 80mph, along a curve south of Seattle, killing three and injuring dozens.
Authorities have revealed that Gran, who was autistic and a huge train enthusiast, was a registered sex offender who was sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release after he was caught with a massive amount of child pornography.
Gran was working as a computer technician at Auburn's Green River Community College, Washington, in 2011 when an investigation identified him as a member of an online pedophile ring.
The probe, dubbed 'Operation Rescue', began in the Netherlands in 2009 but stretched on for years, and across different countries, and ultimately saw 12 suspected child abusers arrested and rescued 100 children.

Some dope who was doing 80 in a 30 mph zone. Then again Amtrak et al was suppose to put computers in the trains that made the trains slow downs but they have not. So why blame the engineer? They had the technology to prevent this but did not use it.
What are they hiding?

I didn’t know the man. All I know is when crimes are described in such vague terms I want to know more information and specific things.
I read through the article and followed some links, and googled him and the story of his pedo past was essentially true because, to be blunt, I don’t trust vague terms when describing criminal activity.

The thing that sticks out for me is that there were only 70 some odd passengers and crew on board the 13 car train.
What kind of load factor does Amtrak have 8-10%? on runs like this.
I like trains as much as the next guy but running an operation for “rail enthusiasts” comeon.
Well, you know that notion just crossed my mind.
Engineer should know to slow train down as indicated by speed signs. Just like all the engineers who have been using this railroad for the last 100 years. A train engineer has two functions, speed up and slow down the train. There is no steering function like in all other modes of transportation. Incompetent.
We have amtrack Boston to Maine service now.
It first went to Portland, then to Freeport and Now to Brunswick.
It is all subsidized and a function of leftists who want us to be just like Europe.
No one rides the Train, when you go to the station it is bustling with people, who all get on the comfortable smooth riding private bus services that go where you actually want to go. My daughter rode an Amtrak to Boston recently that had four passengers and two of them were retired Amtrak employees who ride free and were day tripping to Boston.
Who the hell wants to travel from Boston to Freeport? Or Brunswick? Shopping? Uh-no. Bowdoin College? Maybe five?
We are getting screwed by the boondoggle called Amtrak passenger service here in Northern New England.
Busses are the best thing possible, they ride on roads, have flexibility, are comfortable and terrific.
We have bus service now at an executive level to Logan and right into NYC. Love it.
Sounds like he had mental illness Autism that sometimes causes repetitive thoughts and/or actions. looks like OCD but with far greater impact. Also the dx has poor judgments.
There was a reason our forefathers kept the public away from porn and other morally bankrupt behaviors. not that some people couldn’t handle it but that there are many who cannot and they are penalized.

Two where just cool dudes who really loved riding trains.
One was a mega pervert who should not have even been on the train because he should have never been released from prison for child porn. Don’t matter he’s in hell now, and society is safe.
Society morns the loss of the other two.

The point is to be as sensational as possible, so as to generate the maximum possible number of clicks from readers who have nothing better to do with their time than to read the often-trashy Daily Mail.
Then as the number of clicks go up, the owners of the website can raise their advertising rates. Follow the money.
