Does "Showtime" get even more absurd in the following seasons or is Season 1 at Peak Absurdity?

...Vice-President Walden is so powerful that he can even order drone missile strikes? Really? In what alternate universe does this happen?

It's fiction, PJ.

HOW DID A VICE-PRESIDENT BECOME SO POWERFUL?

Because that is the way the script is written.

:)

Hillary Clinton, with no position whatsoever, nearly nationalized American health-care in the 90’s - and basically had America go to war against Libya in 2011 and turned that country into a failed state.

Why is it so unimaginable?

It’s a pretty good series. Worth watching. Lots of good twists. IMHO.

Good series, hopefully they don’t jump the shark like “24” did when they “normalized” muslim terrorists.

Oh no, it gets more absurd in later seasons (but we still watch it).

My opinion is don’t watch past the first story arc (3 or 4) seasons. Same with wired if you haven’t binged that one.

However, the biggest absurdity of them all is: HOW DID A VICE-PRESIDENT BECOME SO POWERFUL?

You haven’t watched House of Cards, have you?

Spoiler.

Francis Underwood is the president without even being elected as president. Or even vice president.

He was selected and appointed for each position.

‘Tis a silly show that should be consumed with much salt. It’s from the same folks that made 24, it’s all about plot twists and try not to think too much about what happened 4 episodes ago because we’re about to contradict that. And much like 24 it eventually gets rather boring because there’s just so many unexpected twists a viewer can stand.

I mean how weak does a president have to be to allow his vice-president to usurp his power in such a blatant manner?

As opposed to the reality of when Obama and Biden were in office. Obama was strong. In all the wrong ways, of course. But he was a strong president.

As opposed to Biden who was dumber than a bag of flaming poop on the porch.

There was one moment of truth a couple of seasons ago during a CIA debriefing. Google "Peter Quinn reset button homeland" if you want to see the whole thing.

"They're there for one reason and one reason only: to die for the Caliphate and usher in a world without infidels. That's their strategy and it's been that way since the seventh century. So do you really think that a few special forces teams are going to put a dent in that? "

What is absurd is that a total whack job can (spoiler alert, drag the mouse over the rest of this sentence) like Carrie can not only be in the CIA, but achieve the level of authority she does reaches. But like pointed out above, this is fiction.

The first episode of season 7 aired last week. It is a complete Trump Derangement Syndrome fustercluck. A paranoid female POTUS (they were so sure Cankles was going to win) who puts everybody in DC in prison who she suspects of plotting against her and a one-dimensional right-wing terrorist transparently modeled after Alex Jones.

Season 5 was the best, in my opinion, because it centers on the exploits of Peter Quinn.

Without Quinn the show is over.

Simple answer that my wife gives me when I ask such questions:

"Simple. It was in the script, dear."

“The President on the show is invisible so far but Vice-President Walden is so powerful that he can even order drone missile strikes? Really? In what alternate universe does this happen?”

The alternate universe in liberals’ heads, where Dubya was just a figurehead and Darth Cheney wielded all the real power.
