Drinking to the spirit of the season - Lord of the Rings.
And another drinking carol, Castle - Wassail - Bad Santa Episode - Barry-Phillips.
PING
That was so good. Very clever.
Funny. Never saw that.
I was watching MST3K the other day and remembered there was one of their bridge segments that was hysterically funny but forgot what it was.
As soon as I saw the Wassail title on FR, I remembered it.

(Carole of the bells ..played with spectacular light show at private home)
Bookmarked. That was SUCH fun. Christmas is such a wonderful season that inspires so much creativity. But I have to tell you that I got confused and was watching the commercial waiting for the music to become familiar. Took ever so long to figure out I was watching the wrong thing.
Carol Of The Bells by the Trans Siberian Orchestra (love it ) playing in the background at this house with a spectacular light show??
Wasn't that fantastic?
It was featured on GMA or Today several years ago.
By the way; love your bio page. Good work.
Not sure which one you mean. My personal website is about 15K pages. My Henry Livingston one is yet another 15K. Anal compulsive here.
Grandfather was from Sherman TX, near Dallas, so I was raised singing Yellow Rose of Texas at the top of my lungs. He was the most wonderful southern gentleman.
I think the 'yellow rose' bit came from the African American gal who 'distracted' Santa Anna. Right?
When I was a child, the movie of that name was popular on 4pm television when you got home from school. Only learned about the blue bonnet when LBJ’s wife was planting them.
I am confused. I have seen the entire Castle series, and enjoyed this episode. I also enjoy the Wassail carol. Where does TLotR fit in?
Both “The Lord of the Rings” and “Here We Come A-wassailing” figure prominently in my life as a (semi-)professional chorister.
Some years ago, I was in a prominent chamber choir, the SJSU Choraliers (which took Choir-of-the-World honors in 1991, before I was in it, or even in choral music).
My year, we performed “Rent-A-Carols” throughout Christmas Season for many local professional offices in Silicon Valley, to raise funds for the next summer’s European tour and competition (in Gorizia, Italy). “Wassail” was one of our staples in the carol repertoire.
We typically performed as single or double quartets, culled from a roster of 31, so the woman in charge had to use a spread sheet to cover all reservations, cross-referencing class and work schedules with voice parts needed, so that each ensemble was balanced. It was quite an ordeal, and we raised many thousands of dollars. The highlight was performing for resting-home shut-ins who could otherwise not hear such live music.
Years later, in April 2015, while the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performed all three of The Lord of the Rings in Concert at the Lincoln Center in New York, Symphony Silicon Valley with Chorale and Cantabile also performed it at the Center for Performing Arts in San Jose. This was the complete trilogy, each shown twice, Thursday and Friday (one each), and Saturday and Sunday (two each). Both venues hold circa 2600.
These drew travelers from all over the United States. They showed the films on special giant screen with dialogue only, accompanied by full live orchestra and chorus, with soloists. We received standing ovations at both intermissions and endings.
I went topside for a program after the first performance, while still in concert attire. I got stopped by a group from a neighboring state and asked for my autograph. (I thought they were joking, but no.)
This was one of the most thrilling highlights of my career, as I have read J.R.R. Tolkien’s trilogy more than two dozen times, and consider Howard Shore’s score a masterpiece. We held intensive rehearsals for ten weeks prior, to master the not only the music but singing in Elvish and Dwarvish.
(This topped my previous favorite: singing in Star Wars in Concert at the ARCO Arena and the HP Pavilion in 2009.)
Two drinking carols - different fandoms. Both instrumentals.
NOW I understand the bio reference. I built the top of the Q thread and tested it in my bio area. It was a joint project with ransomnote.
