UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Federal workers caught up in the partial government shutdown — now in its third week — said that without a regular paycheck, they’re having to make some very tough choices.

A dozen unionized federal employees and union leaders, assembled by Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said the hardship is growing from the shutdown. Some spoke of cash-flow problems in the absence of a paycheck.

“I got to figure out which over-the-counter medication I need to go get. Do I go get the allergy medication? If my daughter has a cold, do I get her cold medication? Of course, she’s going to win because she’s a child,” said Tyra McClelland, a member of the American Federation of Government Employees who works in the federal court system.

...

“The majority of our employees are home on furlough … our employees work paycheck to paycheck,” said LaVerne Byrd, a first-vice president of the American Federation of Government Employees.

Byrd, who works at the Census Bureau, added, “The president doesn’t understand that we are human beings, we are people.”

Van Hollen criticized Senate Republicans and urged the Senate to approve measures passed by the House aimed at reopening various federal agencies.

“We need to work to make sure we get the government reopened as soon as possible, right away,” Van Hollen said.

get another job if need be. Provide day care. Deliver pizzas. President Trump approves. The federal government is not in business to provide jobs, it is in business to protect the population and provide for the general welfare.

Choosing between medications is utter horsesheet. The government provides gold plated insurance unlike any other.

Federal “workers” getting paid with tax plunder to do things that no one wants done except the government. Cry me a river. They contribute NOTHING to the economy.

Gosh, it happened frequently enough I can’t remember how many times I got laid-off, downsized or simply fired. That’s because I live in the real world, not some Disneyland of forever employment, great benefits and a substantial pension. And, yes, I have known many of these perfumed princes who complain about their pay, benefits and their lousy pension. All the while I had none of what they were getting. After thirty-plus years of working I will soon start a “pension” that is $45/ month. This is because Obama having his political hissy fit with the defense budget.

It figures that VanHollen would engineer this presser with those federal union thugs. It’s the latest RAT tactic to gain sympathy and try to pressure Trump to cave.

It hurts so much that not one “Federal worker” that is directly affected by the shutdown will quit because of it.

Not even one. And who can blame them? They know that they can go through feigned hardship while not going into work and getting full pay. When they have to go back they can act all indignant about how they are unappreciated and using this as an excuse to do even less work than they would usually do.

Not one will quit. Nobody ever does, because whether they are critical or not, they know they will never find another job lets them harvest so much pay and benefits for such little effort as the one they have now.

Build The Wall

It's as simple as that.

Hey, $5B is chump change to the government. This isn't about money.

Our government has two choices:

1) Border security, recognition of national sovereignty, respect for our existing laws.
2) Open hostility to all of the above.

Are these government workers lining up and defending the Democrat stance of opposing border security? Opposing national sovereignty? Opposing the rule of law???

Trump is 100% right. Build the wall. The solution to the shutdown is real simple.

Every federal worker in my extended family wants the wall. They’re apprehensive, obviously, about paying bills if this thing goes on indefinitely, but they understand the situation.

The only people that are seriously inconvenienced are government employees. Obama tried to make the shutdown as unpleasant as possible. Trump has made it hardly noticeable.

Local Miami Florida media is doing the EXACT SAME THING...boo hoo cry stories from people who live off my tax dollars....one guy even said something pathetic like “I will have to choose between gas in my car and feeding my family....”

And of course the media tracks down a welfare mom “They all have money, but not me.....”

Full court press by national and local media to denounce Trump.

The auto industry has had more than its share of layoffs, both temporary and indefinite......

The late 70's and early 80's were particularly hard for the hourly workers in my plant who would work a couple weeks then get laid of for a couple. Nobody knew how long a call back would last.....
