PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Otoharmonics Corporation, a U.S. veteran-owned company offering sound therapy for tinnitus management, has been awarded a five-year Federal Supply Schedule Medical Equipment and Supply contract, making Levo available immediately to patients receiving care within the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, Bureau of Prisons, Indian Heads Services, and Public Health Services.

Compatible with the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Tinnitus published by the American Academy of

Otolaryngologists and the VA's Progressive Tinnitus Management Program, the Levo System's sleep therapy has been shown to reduce the level of tinnitus intensity and improve the quality of life in several published peer-reviewed studies, including a randomized controlled study by the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research at the VA Portland Health Care System.

"Increasing access to affordable, evidence-based tinnitus care for U.S. service men and women has been an ongoing focus for Otoharmonics," said Michael Baker, CEO. "The FSS award is a significant step towards expanding care within this underserved patient population."

Tinnitus is the number one service-related disability among U.S. veterans, according to the American Tinnitus Association. An often-overlooked outcome of active duty, tinnitus is typically a result of exposure to loud noise. Whether it's from a high noise environment such as flight, use of heavy machinery, or being near severe and sudden explosives, the effects of tinnitus can be long-lasting. Left untreated, symptoms may increase over time and significantly impact the quality of life.

The Levo System is an FDA-cleared medical device that works in concert with the brain's natural restorative and learning processes. Designed for home use, those suffering from buzzing or ringing in the ears listen to personalized sound therapy while sleeping to gain relief. Over time, the brain learns to ignore the tinnitus perception, resulting in a reduction of tinnitus intensity and negative impact.

About Otoharmonics Corporation Otoharmonics Corporation is a privately held company with headquarters in Portland, Oregon USA. As an international team of world–class neuroscientists, clinicians, business professionals, and patients, Otoharmonics has developed the Levo System for tinnitus management, which is specifically designed for use during sleep. What?

I started getting severe tinnitus in my left ear about two years ago. About 10 years ago I was in a small private plane with a friend, and I adjusted my Bose noise-cancelling headset while he was on takeoff, and blew out my left ear.

The hearing eventually came back in my left ear, and was fine for years, but about two years ago I lost all high frequency hearing above 7K, and have a constant ringing in my ear.

The ringing has gotten worse now that we have adopted a Chihuahua puppy, and she just learned how to bark. It physically hurts my ear, so now I’ve taken to wearing a foam earplug in that ear.

I wish there was a cure for tinnitus, but I know that all of the ‘one simple tricks’ are snake oil.

I haven't contacted my local VA yet, but I wonder if availability is based on the local office having trained staff? And if so, is the local staff required to take the training?
A few years ago, I contacted my VA regarding the Neuromonics Oasis device and they said they were under-staffed and couldn't have the time to send anyone to training. Morons.

We have a Chihuahua that is about 16 years old. She barks only when someone rings the doorbell....................

Very interesting piece.I was just diagnosed as having moderate hearing loss by the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary,a very highly respected center for treatment of eye, ear, nose and throat disorders. The doctor recommended hearing aids but mentioned nothing about a remedy for the tinnitus.

If this treatment is effective I hope that vets who suffered ear and hearing damage due to service in the Middle East have full access to it.

Even hearing aids that offer Tin. reduction are horrid.

My hearing was surgery damage. Inner Ear Perfusion for Meniere’s, Low Freq. but the Tin has been there for a long time, I have Meniere’s and that maybe part of it.

Hubby has High Freq Flight Deck hearing loss 20 yrs working the Flight Deck when at sea. VA covers his hearing aids. He turned down the Tin cancelling ones, the hiss white noise was so bad. Same for me.

I've had the white noise aids for three years now and they're a Godsend.
I don't need them everyday, but when I do use them, they really help dealing with the damned hissing.

This is interesting to me because I think I may finally be developing tinnitus almost 30 years after my Navy career of more than 5000 flight hours in and around big turbo-prop aircraft. Very mild at the moment, basically just white noise now. We’ll have to see (hear) as time goes by, I guess. Good to know there may be solutions out there.

Mine started when I was a young man in my twenties, right after I got out of the USMC. I’m now 64. It got progressively worse until it’s practically all I can hear now.......

My dad has tinnitus. He doesn’t care, says it’s just his sound, and hopes when he gets to the next world, it doesn’t annoy the other souls.
