I think there is a chat section. Perhaps the main News/Activism page is for politics, national and world news, etc.

I hardly ever post a thread anymore so I’m a bit rusty. Someone else may be able to better answer your question.

Just look at the categories(topics) when posting. Under General/Chat, you have Science. Under News/Activism, there’s no good category fit for an article on archaeology.

On the other hand, there is some guy who posts here who writes some kind of church bulletin or club newsletter or some tripe, and posts it here in news. Used to be every Saturday. He thinks his meanderings are Pulitzer quality or some such. And the mods let his threads stay.
