That's the stereotype but it's not necessarily so. I married an attorney. She had no money and her income was waaaaay less than mine as an engineer. Frustrated with long hours and pitiful pay she quit. This is in New Jersey which has more lawyers than mosquitos I think. Not every lawyer is tycoon, I can assure you.

You’d be surprised at how little money most attorneys make. Those at the very top make boatloads of money. The median income of attorneys is likely under $50,000 after expenses.

A guy who owns a medium sized plumbing or electrical contracting business that is well run makes more than 90% of all attorneys.

I know a guy who graduated from Texas A&M in 2008 when there were no jobs, even for engineers. After six months, his dad kicked him out of the house and told to go to work for his uncle doing pressure washing. After a couple years of that, he started his own pressure washing business. He’s knocking down $175-200K per year after paying all his expenses. He has three crews, pays them well and keeps them on the payroll during the slow times.
