If I remember correctly, the first areas that ranked park status were both in California, Kings Canyon and Sequoia. But since California was a state they gave the parks to the state. When they seized Yellowstone, Wyoming was not yet a State, so the national Park service was formed to protect it. It would seem, statehood would negate the National Park service.
I agree. There may have been a necessity for the federal government to administer lands that were not yet admitted into the union, but once it is admitted into the union as a state, the state takes over.
