Well here is what I think this all boils down to.

Do you trust Fauci and what we are told?

You do know the same people use to say smoking was safe, and any doctor that challenged it was insane. See link below.

you're judging doctors then on today's standards.

In 1900, the average life expectancy of a white male was age 45; only 10% would live to 65. This increased to 54 by 1920 but the Depression knocked that back down to 47 by 1940. There were less than 5 lung cancer deaths per year so no correlation between cancer and smoking was made. And there wasn't much on chronic disease since most people died before 50. Science advanced in the ‘60’s, and today, average white male life expectancy is 75. With people living almost twice the age of that expected in 1930, there's now ample opportunity for cancers to take hold in the aged, who are the most susceptible to lung cancers, and there's more clinical evidence available to pinpoint causality of disease that didn't exist in the '30s. In the 30's, cigarettes were an acceptable substitute for the banned hooch.
