'We're serious': Bay Area parents to protest school vaccine mandates by keeping kids home Monday

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Children will be at the center of a statewide protest on Monday, if organizers have their way.

The plan is to speak up, by not showing up, according to various social media posts by those organizing a campaign to keep their kids home from school on Monday -- to protest Governor Gavin Newsom's COVID vaccine mandate.

"We know that if our children stay home from school that that will impact the funding that schools will get for that day," said parent Babe Prieto, who supports the walkout. "And we want them to know that we're serious about not being forced to vaccinate our children."

California schoolchildren who attend in-person will be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine, once its fully approved. Enforcement could begin as early as January, but more likely in July.

Other parents argue students are already required to get immunized for ten other serious diseases in order to attend school in California.

"You typically sign an agreement when your child attends any public school here in the United States that your child will be vaccinated," said Oakland parent Michael Avila. "And there's typically a list of vaccinations/immunizations that your child is required to have."

"It disappoints me that people are continuing to not take the vaccine seriously," said San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Canepa. "As a parent, you want to make sure that your kid is in a safe school setting."

"Please realize that this vaccine is not a slam dunk," said Prieto, who told ABC7 News he is not "anti-vax" and supports other more established immunizations for schoolchildren. "You can still get the disease. You can still pass the disease."

I pulled 2 of my kids from school. One because the teacher lied and was backed up by the principle who knew she lied, the other because the principle reneged/lied to my kid and was backed up by the school board who also knew that he lied to both my child and me. Instantly. No discussion. I just informed them that my kid wasnt going to school in this district anu more, and walked out, both times.

What has to happen from the schools before people get their kids out of trouble? Your daughter gets assaulted in the restroom by a guy in a skirt and the Feds wanna call you a terrorist. No problem.

Why arent people grabbing their children and running away?!?!

No show for one day. Big deal. The teachers will just spend the day at Chilis for happy hour.

Think the teachers, districts will get paid anyway
Under emergency pandemic rules, Newscum waived the attendance rule

Keeping them home for one will do nothing. You need go make it hurt for them. Unenroll your children in mass, use alternative schooling options. Force down sizing and budget cuts.

If they are serious, then they’d just yank the kids and homeschool them.

When they are serious they will pull their butts out and not look back. S1 day of missing school has all the same effect of stopping smoking for 1 day to stop your lung cancer!
