Spain’s maritime rescue service said an international operation was under way to locate the crew of the Villa de Pitanxo, a boat from the north-western Galicia region that went down 280 miles (450km) off the Newfoundland coast.

Three people have been plucked from a life raft and seven bodies have been recovered in a search operation that has been hindered by wind, rough seas and reduced visibility.

A plane, two helicopters and four boats are combing the area for survivors. Canadian rescuers said they were optimistic, despite the bad weather.

Trudeau will most likely blame this on the truckers and their hate of Spain.

Technically speaking, a mode of water transport that weighs at least 500 tonnes or above is categorised as a ship. In comparison, boats are stipulated to be quite compact in their structural size and displacement.

Eternal Father, strong to save
Whose arm doth bind the restless wave
Who bidst the mighty ocean deep
its own appointed limits keep

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
for those in peril on the sea.

Amen.

Thank you.

The Japanese eat more fish that anybody, and Spain is second in the list. Spain has good seas around it, but has been going out to the North Atlantic since recorded history. And the Spanish and the Irish, very close Celtic relatives in Galicia where this ship came from, even went out there in boats so tiny you wondered how they made it.

This ship belongs to an old Spanish company based in Galicia. Below is a painting by Joaquin Sorolla, titled “And They Think Fish is Cheap,” which shows a dying fisherman.

Not sure why Canada lets Europeans fish off the coast of Newfoundland since it was Europeans mostly who over-fished the Cod and ended up permanently changing the eco system. As my Newfie relatives say, “none too swift, that one”

Hypothermia will have killed anyone in the water, within 30-60mins.

“And They Think Fish is Cheap”

should read as “They Think Fish is expensive”

“Hypothermia will have killed anyone in the water, within 30-60mins.”

With a survival suit a few hours in the water and you are gone this time of year. No survival suit = you loose use of arms and legs in 15 to 20 minutes. You are alive but drown.

In the summer with a survival suit you will probably make it. If you have no survival suit you will die. If you are in an emergency raft or capsule you will survive.

Me = several years working in the North Sea. It is a cold Son of a Bit—!

If one wants to know what a Vicious Bitch the North Sea is just google the “Alexander Kieland Disaster” I was on it a few months before it went down, but just for a day in transit. Some of my friends went down with the Kieland.
