Obama and Biden barely even mentioned Zawahiri (if mentioned at all) during their time in office, because Obama wasn't ever going after him, and wanted Americans to think that by getting bin Laden, the war was ended and we could withdraw. Plus, they wanted to overthrow Mubarak, who was too friendly with Israel, and who warned us about al Qaeda ahead of 911. To overthrow Mubarak and replace him with el Baradei, the Obama admin was willing to work with Mubarak's Islamist opposition, which included Zawahiri's brother. Now that the Arab Spring flopped, el Baradei didn't get in and SisI kicked out the Muslim Bro, Zarqawi is more useful dead than if he happened to fall into a new administration's hands and get interrogated. Democrats really needed to make sure that Zawahiri and other loose ends never get waterboarded.
Don’t forget that we were told over and over- by the very same people who told us Russia was colluding with Trump- that al Qaeda couldn’t get along with Iran and therefore Iran couldn’t have anything to do with 9/11...
Even when al Qaeda leadership and bin Laden’s family were living IN Iran, this no link mantra kept up.
Even when Zarqawi the Jordanian (not Egyptian Zawahiri) had a prewar cell based in Baghdad made up of Egyptians linked to EIJ, this “no link to 9/11” mantra kept up.
One thing the press kept omitting is that Zawahiri is related by marriage to at least one Iranian mullah, and had links to the Iranian regime.
Another thing is that this weekend, Iran attempted to carry out an assassination in New York.
