WASHINGTON (AP) — A retired New York Police Department officer was sentenced on Thursday to a record-setting 10 years in prison for attacking the U.S. Capitol and using a metal flagpole to assault one of the police officers trying to hold off a mob of Donald Trump supporters.

Thomas Webster’s prison sentence is the longest so far among roughly 250 people who have been punished for their conduct during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021. The previous longest was shared by two other rioters, who were sentenced separately to seven years and three months in prison.

Webster, a 20-year NYPD veteran, was the first Capitol riot defendant to be tried on an assault charge and the first to present a self-defense argument. A jury rejected Webster’s claim that he was defending himself when he tackled Metropolitan Police Department officer Noah Rathbun and grabbed his gas mask outside the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Yet rapists who murder their victims get a slap on the wrist and let go under democratic leadership.

How many violent murderous illegal criminals did the Obama administration let go when he u loaded the prisons of illegals? It was around 80,000 violent criminals I beleive?

“Obama’s Army: White House Released 86,000+ Illegals Who Committed 230,000+ Crimes”

https://www.americanpatriotdaily.com/latest/obamas-army-white-house-released-86000-illegals-who-committed-230000-crimes/

The ex cop didn’t kill or even intend to kill a yone, and he gets 10 years?

Big mistake, he should have shot a videographer dead on a movie set, no jail time for that.

Hell, you don’t get 10 years for committing a mass killing of children anymore. This J6 crap has got to stop.

Just more crap to stir up an armed rebellion so the UN can take over the country.

It absolutely is, and he served in the Marines which the judge seems to not give one damn about. This is just another political prisoner. I’m not condoning what he did, but 10 years is absolutely outrageous especially considering not one of these Antifa bastards have been treated the same for attacking cops for the past 6 years. Remember the two who tried to burn cops alive in their patrol car by throwing Molotov cocktails in it? Whatever happened to them? Last time I heard, both of them were out.

The weaponized DOJ is doling out these excessive sentences as a constant reminder/threat to anyone that opposes them; you are not the opposition, you are the enemy.

What happened to Ray Epps? There are numerous vids of him with a bull horn and speaking with apparent authority of an organizer telling people to storm the Capitol. Where is his spot in line for prosecution? This lack of protocol with Epps makes this Jan6 prosecution episode a joke. Seems its all about Pelosi covering herself for refusal of Fed Troops to protect the Capitol. Trump asked her three times if she wanted support and protection, but she refused as if she wanted this all to happen on Trump’s watch. Maybe that is why Paul was running around drunk in his Porsche with a chick in the right seat and had an accident. You can’t fix dumb.

Assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon will often receive such a sentence. Not outrageous.

I think FJB's Reichstag speech last night confirmed just that.

DC Judge, DC jury hit him hard.

Yes, he took a small short aluminum flag pole (I saw a photo) and smashed a bikerack on the ground AFTER he saw how the DC police were beating the crowds.

120,000+ protesters walked from the ellipse to the Capitol Building, tourists do that every day. Having grown up in DC, I witnessed massive demonstrations numbering in the many hundreds of thousands. There are riot police with batons and shields near the Capitol, on its steps and on the ground around it.

Tourists are ALLOWED TO ENTER the Capitol. Massive crowds would need to be controlled. The current force needs extensive development and training. The DC enclave has been allowed to grow itself into a local dictat.

Ashley Babbit, unarmed and peaceful, was gunned down, life taken. Older men and women were beaten unconscious with one death.

The DC/Capitol Police, courts, judges need to be suspended, reviewed, terminated as necessary. The States of Virginia and Maryland can loan law enforcement troops to take up the slack.

Bingo. He also got this ultra-ridiculous sentence precisely because he is a Marine and a 20 year veteran of NYPD. The warning could not be more clear.

It is absolutely appalling (as others have said) that antifa assaults on our federal courthouses, burning down police precincts, violent attacks, mayhem, destruction of billions of dollars of property, and murder get off with virtually NO punishment.

The country is in deep, deep trouble.

Yep. I hope on his first day in office that pr3sident Trump says “because simple protestors were treated so heinously by the left for political reasons, for the purpose of intimidating protestors in the future, I am immediately Pardoning everyone. They were treated horribly, thrown into solitary confinement, some for over 2 years, not given fair trials, many told to lie just to get bail, and now I am stepping in to declare that this is NOT HOW WE TREAT CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES... EVER!

The left have been acting like dictators of some tin pot country, but we are in charge now, and we will be pursuing legal action against the violators of people’s rights while Biden was In office!” Etc etc etc

Th3 Republicans in congress “SHOULD” send an even more powerful message that when people are persecuted for political purposes, the political persecutors Will face justice for vio,at8ngmthe rights of the innocent.

Of course the right won’t do so, but they should

There are 22 active judges on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia

14 of those judges were appointed by Democrats. Only 8 judges were appointed by Republicans.

Since 1980...Republicans have held the white house for 24 years. Democrats have held the white for 18 years.

Republicans 24 years...8 appointments.

Democrats 18 years...14 appointments.

Why theynjust can’t find Epps of course. They can however find an 80 year o,d grandma who had her face hidden by covid masks, who stepped foot on Capitol grounds, probably by accident, and charge her to,the fullest extent of the law, but ray Epps? Who had no mask? Was seen clearly on tape inciting people to storm the building, and was known by name? Nope, just can’t seem to find him apparently.
