Ex-US military paid by Saudis, other foreigners for shadowy work: report

Scores of respected generals and admirals — including former national security advisers Marine Gen. James Jones and Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn — were among those cashing six and seven-figure checks for the work, according to a bombshell report from the Washington Post, which published the findings Tuesday after suing all branches of the military and the State Department for a trove of personnel documents in a prolonged court fight.

Fifteen of the former top military officials have done consulting work for Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, since 2016, according to the report...

Jones, who served as Barack Obama’s national security adviser from 2009 to 2010, owns two firms that contracted with Riyadh...

Most of the other more than 500 retired officials worked as contractors to upgrade the militaries of countries in North Africa and other oil-rich monarchies like the United Arab Emirates...

Federal law prohibits retired military personnel from receiving anything from foreign governments that would interfere with their sworn allegiance to the US, but Congress allows retired military officials to work for foreign states with the approval of their former branch and the State Department...

However, the Washington Post investigation found that many retired military officials don’t bother to report their overseas work and there is no criminal penalty for violating the policy.

he pay that contractors receive from foreign governments often dwarfs the already handsome salaries that officials earned in the military...

Azerbaijan offered a retired Air Force general $5,000 a day for consulting work, while Australia reportedly doled out a contract worth more than $10 million to several former Navy officials.

Interesting timing. A coincidence I’m sure.
Just like our stealth sub popping up right around Saudi Arabia...

The Arab dictators have long been purchasing the loyalty of IN-OFFICE American politicians by bribes (often paid after the pols are out of office....)

this is distorting USA policy even today... as the second prince of Saudi Arabia famously stated a few years ago in WashDC about how easy it was/is to buy off American politicians

when someone will give a typical political hack, who is in that business for the money in the first place......will promise him or her several million dollars (or a fake contract paying same)...if s/he will sell out your country or its defenses or policies

the result is that the politicians usually do sell us out...
Clintons, Carter, Obama, many more

the Muslim dictators are not stupid, they learned well from (as it is often attributed) Vladimar Lenin....who said that...“When it comes time to hang the capitalists, they will vie with each other for the rope contract.”

As long as they are not involved in government lobbying.
Most foreign countries have a lack of intelligent people skilled in some things.

Is anyone else tired of hearing ‘BOMBSHELL’ for every report?

Yeah, I wish they’d offer some cash to retired enlisted. Unlike officers, we actually worked for a living... :-)
