WATCH: Cori Bush's husband confronted over the thousands in cash he has received from her campaign

The husband of far-left "Squad" Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri was pressed late last week on the streets of Washington, D.C., over the thousands of dollars in cash he has received from his wife's campaign.

Fox News Digital confronted Cortney Merritts, who appeared to backtrack about his role on the campaign after initially telling the videographer he doesn't have a role in the campaign.

Merritts has pocketed $102,500 in payments since Bush added him to her campaign's payroll in January 2022 for what they marked as "security" payments before switching their description to "wage expenses" in April, Fox News Digital reported.

Fox News Digital has contacted her campaign several times over the past two years regarding the security payments - first, regarding the security payments in general as she pushed to defund the police, then regarding the payments to Merritts - but Bush's campaign did not respond to a single inquiry.

As the couple left a fundraiser for California Democrat candidate Derek Marshall in D.C. Thursday night, Fox News Digital approached Merritts and questioned him over the money and his position with the campaign.

"I have a question for you," the videographer said. "What's your role on the campaign right now?"

"I don't have a role in the campaign, man," Merritts responded.

"You don't have a role at all?" the videographer countered. "They were reporting you had wages on the campaign for security, and then it was a general wage. I was just wondering what you've been doing on the campaign?"

"Yeah, I mean you can Google what it is," Merritts replied. "You can also Google what happened with the FEC report came back 5-0, that it was all completely above board."

"So you're not doing any more work with her campaign?" the videographer said.

I doubt there are 25 decent, honest people in government in DC. Most are pocket liners and the People be damned.

“I doubt there are 25 decent, honest people in government in DC. Most are pocket liners and the People be damned.”

As a result the “ethics” committees of the House and Senate are a joke as is the highly politicized Department of “Justice” and the three letter federal agencies allegedly involved in “law enforcement”.

Declining nations are characterized by corruption in the political class. Government no longer functions, because the people in office are self serving grifters.

Cori Bush’s campaign paid husband for security services
- but he doesn’t have a private security license

FIRST ON FOX: Missouri Democratic Rep. Cori Bush’s campaign doled out $60,000 in private security payments last year to Cortney Merritts....... who she quietly married earlier this month.

Merritts, however, pocketed the security payments despite not having a St. Louis private security license, which is needed to perform security functions in the area, Fox News Digital has discovered. Merritts also received the campaign’s cash as it simultaneously paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a St. Louis security firm and another individual for personal protection.

Fox News Digital filed a public records request with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department on Monday morning seeking information regarding Merritts’ private security license. In response, a Sunshine Law administrator said there are “no responsive records” relative to the request, and Merritts does not have a current license. When asked if Merritts ever had a private security license, the administrator said that the “last security license issued to that individual expired in 2012.”

The records search - which covered the city of St. Louis and its neighboring St. Louis County - encompasses Bush’s entire congressional district. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan PD website: “With the exception of St. Louis Police Officers, all persons performing a security function in the City of St. Louis must be licensed to do so through the Private Security Section.” Likewise, in St. Louis County, security officers must register with the same security section.

Merritts also does not appear in a database of licensed security professionals in the Washington, D.C. area, Fox News Digital confirmed with the city’s Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection.(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...

NY Post excerpt——In addition to getting biweekly $2,500 checks from Cori Bush for Congress, her husband Merritts was also reimbursed $2,359.59 for “gas and travel expenses” by the campaign.

Over the same period, Cori Bush for Congress also paid PEACE Security — a St. Louis-based company that provides clients with “security operators” from military or law enforcement backgrounds — a total of $225,281.77, according to FEC records.

While federal regulations ban the use of campaign funds for personal use — and House ethics rules bar using that money “to enhance a Member’s lifestyle, or to pay a Member’s personal obligations,” some leeway is made for members of Congress to pay family members for performing a “bona fide service.”

Bush’s office said in a statement Monday that Merritts was not employed by them, saying: “Our team has come to know and appreciate Mr. Merritts as a loving and caring Congressional spouse.”

Bush and her fellow grifters understand they can break the law and line their pockets without fear of prosecution. Anti-Establishment people who attempt something similar could face huge prison time if caught.
