I watched Mars videos over the Weekend. They are just fantastic.

The helicopter is being used to scout terrain to select a route through an area including deep sand. The rover apparently has a problem with th deep sand. It needed to go through an area with the bad sand and the4 copter showed the way. Now that is truly fantastic.

The rover wanted to go to some specific outcroppings to make a core sample. Amazingly believe it, the core samples are stored on board the rover FOR LATER TRANSPORT TO LABS BACK ON EARTH

what I think is neat is that it has a little piece of wood from the wright brothers plane onboard.

Some background info:

Here are some fun details on the rover itself. Perseverance goes by the nickname of Percy, so that’s kind of funny for the mission named MARS2020. (Perceive)

NASA scores Wright Brothers moment with first helicopter flight on Mars

“NASA also paid tribute to the Wrights by affixing a tiny swatch of wing fabric from their original flyer under Ingenuity’s solar panel before sending it off to Mars.”

https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/science/nasas-mars-helicopter-makes-history-with-successful-flight-red-planet-2021-04-19/

As you can see from the first-flight date of April 19th, it was all about the Revolution:

May 15, 2018:

“The primary way to achieve lift with a rotorcraft in thin air is to spin the blades very fast. The Mars Helicopter’s rotors will operate between 2,300 and 2,800 rpm, depending on the atmospheric density at the landing site, which is five to ten times faster than the rotor speed of an average helicopter.”

Ginny was born on Mars on Saturday, April 3, 2021, so NASA/JPL had to wait until Easter Sunday to know if she had survived the night.

Strange things are afoot up there in Jezero Crater..

The original Wright flyer was damaged after only a couple of flights. The Wright brothers, disassembled it and sent it back to Dayton for storage. When they got home they got busy making improved versions. Their head mechanic reassembled it on his own, without asking permission, and replaced some damaged parts. He kept the damaged parts in the shop as historical artifacts, and the splinters that have been distributed around the world came from those parts. The head mechanic did not keep the parts for himself or for gain, he maintained them for the owners, the Wright Brothers.

Well done, NASA. I'm sure the Wright Brothers would have appreciated the acknowledgement.

With a bounce here and a bounce there, this lil gal intends to outrace us all. All saints and all souls:
