NASA has been converted into a “Can’t Do!” Bureaucracy since the rocket scientists who created it retired/died.
Any progress in space exploration will be in spite of NASA’s “participation/leadership”.

Whoever controls low earth orbit, or later perhaps, the moon, will control the earth.

No big surprise. Liberal whining is what killed the Apollo program. NASA had a lot more moon landings planned.
There are some craters on the Moon which never get any sunlight. As a result over millions of years ice has been collecting. This is likely the most important real estate in the Solar System. Whatever country gets control of that gets control of cheap access to the rest of space.
Well, most important of all will be the race and gender (trans encouraged to apply) of the astronauts.

Maybe because the first Golden Age already taught us that there is nothing much worth chasing out there. Earth is the only planet we are going to be able to live on, there are no aliens, and even if we find an asteroid made 100% of gold, it probably will not be economically viable to try to mine it.
We’ll see how that works out with their 1+1 = 3 math.
