The Chosen series is fantastic, but their Christmas Special in the theaters was horrible unless you’re into that music. I felt like a prisoner forced to watch 90 minutes of lip syncing to really really really really really yeah yeah really repetitive pop. Not a single instrument or vocalization that was shown on screen was real. 100% studio music with people pretending to sing and play on camera. Dallas Jenkins owes me 90 minutes of my life back for that. And it wasn’t just me. Everyone in our group felt the same.
Then when the music/torture was done they showed an episode of The Chosen, which was nice of them. We liked that part.
Personally I enjoyed the Christmas special and while it was mostly a repeat of last year I can see this being an annual tradition for our family.
That said, the overwhelming consensus is that The Chosen trailer for Season 4 was by far the best part of the Christmas Special this year.

It is a great tool to use for Bible Study. There are a lot of “Chosen-isms” that make great storylines for the series but are NOT in the Bible.
It is important to remember and understand that so that you always go to SCRIPTURE for the truth and not a TV series.
That said all the key points are on point

The Chosen is best when it sticks to Scripture.
The character development is pretty good, but some of the side story lines for which there is no Biblical support, Peter’s deal with the Romans, the women setting up the business venture, and all the drama involved with their interactions, leave a lot to be desired.
Again, if it makes you read and understand scripture more intently I order to identify the Chosen-isms I call it a win
It makes for great Bible Study to discuss what is real truth / history and what are simply chosen-isms in the TV series that make the storylines relateable

i take your point. and it’s important that i answer it at some length to further explain what i think the authors of The Chosen are doing with their interpretation of the Gospel, which is to use the cinema arts, in the Spirit, to labor on in the great commission of our Lord. so i propose the following:
the only way you can know that this show is ‘biblical,’ is if you have studied the Scripture (OT and NT) in sufficient depth. i would say the same about a biblical painting by say Leonardo or Michelangelo as well. to a non-believer or a bible illiterate believer, it becomes a very-well scripted and acted, high quality serial drama. but as you said. the point of this show is to drive those who need to study the Word, to do exactly that. i believe this show is succeeding magnificently in that purpose, and that is why i support it, with my dollar and my praise.
now imho, the synoptic Scriptures, cannot be presented theatrically and visually in this mode without—the plainly stated as added for dramatic effect—sequences that knit the separate, disjoint claims/prophesies of the Gospel, history, parables, teachings, and other elements together seamlessly for the show’s narrative. the show’s creator says this honestly and flat out. i have no problem with what they have done to *plausibly* create and add narrative for the art, to creatively make the biblical snippets hang together as a seamless video narrative. now a person who studies the Bible, rightly does this kind of imaginative visualizing on his/her own, i certainly have and i have to say, this show has done a better job than i do with my own imagination the majority of the time, without changing my interpretation (theological and personal based on my own study and my study of other expositors) of the meaning (at least for me) of the Bible in any important way. and of course different believers and students of the Bible may see some things differently from what The Chosen portrays. shrugs, different denominations, groups, and individual Christians do the same. that’s ok in my view. God will sort all of that out amongst believers in the end. by faith, i believe, there is (and will be) no differing private interpretation left to believers in the Scriptures when the Lord is through with His Work on us.

yes i do, with this caveat, because i’ve had many disagreements with adherents of the same. i agree with Sola Scriptura to the extent that some of the reformers define it with us being able to rightly divide (use and act on) the Word of God—it being our primary Authority in the Faith.
others, though, i would oppose who exclude other sources of God’s Truth. imho, you must include the Holy Spirit as teacher and explicator of the Word, and also the Provider of the fruits of the Spirit in life and acting out the precepts of the Gospel. and you must include God’s Creation and an understanding of it’s truths as best as you are able, so as to use God’s Creation in a way pleasing to Him.
