Ex-Hertz Tesla Model 3s Cost as Little as $14,000. Would You Buy One?
The Drive ^

Hertz is offloading used Tesla Model 3s from its fleet at a deep discount. They may be former rentals, but they're cheap enough that you have to ask yourself—would you buy one for $14,000?

Hertz initially ordered 100,000 cars from Tesla, but has since pushed back its EV adoption for a multitude of reasons. The company blamed high repair costs and recent price cuts on new Teslas for the decision in an earnings call reported by CNBC. It's possible that the arrival of the 2024 Model 3's "Highland" facelift may also have pushed Hertz to liquidate. In fact, Hertz is already offloading excess Teslas, sometimes for less than half what they cost new.

Someone whose needs are within the Teslas limited parameters will jump on it. Or a third card or something.

1) Hertz is hoping to find patsies to buy the things.

2) “Did you ever sell a car used that you really wanted to hold onto?” I know there have been exceptions but mostly they breathe a long sigh of relief they finally unloaded the thing. Somebody else’s problem now.

Depends on the warrantee and service schedule offered.

Provided he doesn’t live in an area with -30 temperatures!

It’s a pretty good deal - you can sell anything at the market-clearing price, if you’re willing to accept it.

Considering that northern Indiana has had sub-zero temps for several days with more to come this winter, I’d be an idiot to buy one or even accept one as a gift. Thus, heck NO.

If they give it a 100K warranty from time of sale, including the battery, sure.

Hertz always sells vehicles at a discount after 2-3 years or 40,000 miles. We bought our 2018 Nissan Murano with 43,000 miles from Hertz in Scottsdale. We financed through Capital One’s Navigator program which meant absolutely no haggling. The entire process was a breeze and the car has had no problems other than needing a new battery 2 yrs ago. Hertz is vigilant about the maintenance schedules for their rental cars, contrary to public opinion.

Not a chance!
Once we can recharge them by plugging a USB cable into my lap top and drive them for 1000 miles towing our bassboat, I’ll reexamine my views...

I see you aren’t very good with money. I’d buy as many as I could for $3 each and make an absolute killing.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a car from a rental car company. I hear the renters "beat the hell out of them..."

You’d much happier with a 2012 Lexus IS250 that you would still have 200k maintenance free miles on:

That depends. Have Hertz rehired O.J. as their killer spokesman?

“Hertz is offloading used Tesla Model 3s from its fleet at a deep discount. “

Until Hertz offloads the TOTAL IDIOT who thought jumping in full-throttle with EVs was a good idea, they’ll keep losing money.

Maybe as a 2nd vehicle that is driven in town for running errands or for summer driving whereas the primary vehicle is a fuel powered engine and used for longer trips. To buy the discounted Hertz Tesla as the only vehicle then no way.
