Found this old Vu-Graph transparency in my collection of saved it pretty well sums up our attitude as young Marine enlisted men at the bottom end of the Corps back then

Whenever I'm out and about and run into an old Marine proudly wearing his USMC hat, I'll say to him, "Hey Marine, Semper Fi from an old Army guy!"
I usually get a wave and a smile. (No middle-fingers yet 😁)
