About 60 years ago I was watching Red Skeleton do a skit on his Live TV Show .. .
There he was, in a modern living room, facing the audience. His wife walks up behind him and cheerfully says, “Hello, Darling.” He spins around, pulls out a revolver and shoots her 6-times !
The camera moves into a tight shot of him massaging his temple. A male Voice-Over follows: “SURE, you got a headache .. . but DON’T take it out on her.”
I enjoyed watching Red Skelton on TV, right before the Osmond Family had their own variety show. I even laughed at Jackie Gleason’s “To the Moon, Alice!” Honeymooner skit, but I would not have enjoyed that joke very much. Sort of ‘overkill’, even by 1960’s standards! That borders on a Twilight Zone outcome.
