Producing thrust without releasing propellant doesn’t defy the laws of physic. It does defy the way we do things, but that’s because we got addicted to rockets. But let’s not forget that they are 13th century technology, there are options.

But first, please read up a little on "Conservation of Momentum". Google it. Here's a starting point:
