After a tumultuous weekend at ABC News, Kim Godwin, the first Black president of a network news division, announced she was stepping down, according to an internal memo sent to staff and obtained by The Daily Beast on Sunday night.
Godwin’s resignation is a severe public relations blow for Disney CEO Bob Iger, who until recently was publicly backing her despite numerous reports of growing discomfort within the ranks. Critics said she spent more time promoting herself than she did in the newsroom, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported her Sunday announcement that she planned to “retire from broadcast journalism.”
Godwin said that she’d made the decision “after considerable reflection,” adding that she would “look to the future and prioritize what’s most important for me and my family.”
The announcement comes just days after it was reported that the veteran newswoman told people in a meeting that Black people don’t watch the news, an astonishing claim that first came to light via two reports in Puck and CNN’s Reliable Sources newsletter. Both detailed meetings in which Godwin made the controversial statement and also claimed that the network had overcompensated for a lack of diversity in its newsroom following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis cops and the Black Lives Matter protest movement that followed.

I guess that overcompensation includes her. Is anyone surprised Disney’s DEI hire was a self promoting failure?
She definitely Didn’t Earn It.
Let me offer five observations:
1. I frankly don’t care who is ‘moderating’ the news (black guy, Asian chick, Hispanic guy, Trans-guy, half-wit Columbia grauate)...as long as I can perceive the piece as factual, non-propaganda, and non-complex.
2. I think 99-percent of blacks will tell you they watch the same news that they did 20 years ago....except they might do a bit of podcasts (Joe Rogan, Hodge Twins, etc).
3. I firmly believe that most blacks will tell you there’s way too much fake news...pointing over to the networks, NY Times, and CNN.
4. With all the dismissals, and faked-up DEI stuff done, I don’t think any of the networks can show a plus-up on viewers. They all are doing an ineffective job of selling the balance of Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign BS.
5. Finally, yes....there is a hell of a lot of ‘chaos’ going on....something you didn’t have in 1980s/1990s. It just begs the question...what did it bring to you and your ‘brand’?
IMO, she was right about Didney overcompensating for the lack of diversity. And she’s likely not wrong about the demographics of who watches the news. It appears to me that she ruffled the feathers of the protected black peacocks Didney already had on staff and they don’t like her and/or worked against her to gather any dirt on her then could. Just sayin’

Why is every position in every broadcasting network, commercials
& DA’s in Democrat run States, run by people of color? They make up 10% of the population in the U.S., but they are all I see on TV and in the news. No wonder ,our courts and our News broadcasts are SH!T! Diversity is fine but they should be qualified for those positions .

The broadcasts are...uhh...of low quality not because the color of their skin but of the poor content of their character—a characteristic found in almost all prominent MSM denizens regardless of their physical appearance.
She was probably “overcompensating” for the said overcompensatuon by hiring too many non-minorities.
She was probably actually trying to dewokify a train wreck like a decent (can one be found?) new Harvard president trying to re-balance it's faculty with non-communists (the faculty would obviously revolt and try to get rid of the dude/dudette).
Dude...”width=x” and ‘height=y” at the end of your html. Learn it, know it, live it.
