I’d hate to be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail right about now.
Fifty permitted PCT hikers per calendar day, began their hike starting on March 1st at the US-MX border, heading north at a 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 mile a day pace, continuing to leave the southern US border at 50 hikers a day, through May 31st.
The snow level is currently estimated to be at 7,800’ to 8,000’ in elevation, throughout the Sierras.
In one 400-mile stretch in the Sierras, hikers will cross 9 passes at or above 10,000’ in elevation.
Cottonwood Pass 11,140’
Forester Pass 13,153’
Glen Pass 11,926’
Pinchot Pass 12,107’
Mather Pass 12,100’
Muir Pass 11,955’
Selden Pass 10,826’
Silver Pass 10,748’
Donoghue Pass 11,066’
I had a good friend get lost in a snowstorm hiking the PCT & die - hope any hikers out there are safe.
