Yosemite has ranked high on a list of the top 10 list national parks for hiking, according to a recent report.

The report by KURU Footwear considered all 63 national parks and looked at several metrics including the number of trails, miles of trails, and a high average trail rating score.

‘Most Instagrammable’: Yosemite awarded online top spot

They also determined the crowd density in each park by comparing the average number of daily visitors with the acreage of the park.

The list has placed Yosemite National Park at number one, and nearby Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Parks also ranked on the list.

Here are the top 10 parks to hike in:

Yosemite National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Yellowstone National Park

Olympic National Park

Shenandoah National Park

Glacier National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park

Sequoia National Park

Grand Canyon National Park

Kings Canyon National Park

According to the report, Yosemite took the number one slot with 278 trails, 4729 miles of trails and a 4.56 average trail rating. As for which national park gets the most visitors, Yosemite ranked fourth on that list with 4,501,382 visitors in 2023.

Yosemite is horrible. Way too crowded. I know much better places. I’m telling no one.

You beat me to it!

Doesn’t it have the highest number of never recovered hikers?

They did recover Julian Sands though.

Julian Sands died in the San Bernardino mountains. Much further south.

A lot of national parks are abutted to state parks with similar views.

These are great places to get a similar experience with far fewer people... and maybe just a few more drug cartels growing illegal weed.

I’ve hiked Glacier twice and Yellowstone once in the past couple years. Personally, I prefer Banff-Lake Louise-Jasper National Parks but they are in the People’s Republic of Canada.

“4,501,382 visitors in 2023”

And, as you know, if you hike a few miles away from the valley or head up to Tuolomne Meadows you won’t see anybody. (Except Glacier Point, Bridal Veil Falls, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome).

Well, there’s your first mistake. There are parts of Yosemite that are crowded, and then there’s most the rest of it.

“Personally, I prefer Banff-Lake Louise-Jasper National Parks”

We took our first trip there at the end of last summer and it was spectacular. We are headed back again this year but starting in Waterton Park then heading to Lake Louise and Banff.

Last year a couple and their dog was killed by a grizz at a horse camp east of Lake Louise.

My first mistake would be going to California at all. I have the entire Rockies to play in.

My wife and I hiked half dome in 2018, beautiful hike. But that park is so crowded it is ridiculous. My daughter and her husband used to go there right after thanksgiving, and stay in the village (?). There are a bunch of tent structures. It was bitterly cold, but there were very few people in the park.
