A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched 23 Starlink Satellites from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on May 18, 2024 at 8:32 p.m. EDT (0032 GMT on May 18).

According to Space.com, the Falcon 9's first stage came back to Earth about 8.5 minutes after liftoff as planned, touching down on the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas, which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. It was the 21st flight for the booster, a new record.

While I cheer any American flight into space, Blue Origin is a joke. Sure it gets up to 65 miles, but it is back on the ground in 10 minutes. 10 minutes. Not really into space, not into orbit, just a carnival ride.

It’s a thrill ride, or a joy ride, or, if something goes wrong, it starts out as one of those, and ends as something else. If I had the cash for it, I’d make sure I wore adult diapers. Probably though I’d fly the Virgin Galactic thing, just because I’m a Rutan fan. :^)

My son wouldn’t learn to ride a bike cuz he thought it was too dangerous.

20 years later he’s jumping out of planes.

Really hope he doesn’t hear about this!!!

I missed out on the Titan submersible to see the Titanic, I’ll try this one out. My luck has to change.

They’ll have a better chance as long as Blue Origin doesn’t use a game controller to guide the ship.

I specified no old white engineers. Only young New Age tattooed blue haired ones with lots of piercings will design the ride I’m risking my life on. I forgot all about the game controller. It’s probably too late for them to modify it now.

Kind of lame if this is all Bezos can do. Seriously...other than tourism, what’s all this work for?

I’ve long been of the opinion that manned space flight is a waste of time and resources, given the capabilities of modern automation, robotics, and now AI. We may be able to have colonies on the moon, but that’s going to be as far as it goes.

“A Blue Origin New Shepard rocket launched the NS-25 mission from Texas on May 19, 2025.”

Apparently it’s not really scheduled to fly until 364 days from now.

“Two years ago, Lockheed Martin stated humans can’t safely get through the Van Allen belt anyway.”

Didn’t the Apollo astronauts get through the Van Allen belt when they went to the moon?

No Elon and his Falcon 9+Dragon launches people into space as in orbit. Bezo little mushroom head rocket launches people into a ballistic path up and down never into orbit. It doesn’t matter if you pass the Kalman line it’s still not space flight. Try again Bezo.

The Van Allen belt meh meh is like flat earthers it’s bunk. The Apollo program put men through both belts twice per trip outbound and inbound. As long as you don’t try to stay in them for days at a time it’s a dose but not anywhere near a harmful dose to pass through them in a few hours time.

Bezos is trying to be the next "SpaceX Starlink" (using Blue Origin rocket launches)(he is waaaaay behind...basically "vaporware"):

The Apollo program put men through both belts twice per trip outbound and inbound.

NASA did this six times from 1969 to 1972. Why hasn't it been done since? What's the holdup? What's the problem? What's the issue? I've been asking this question for the last 52 years and nobody has given me a satisfactory response. Perhaps you can enlighten us.
